I was surprised to find out that this dvd is not region free like I expected. Is it the only release that is this way? I know all my Sexual Healings are region free, and so are Electric Mole, Dynamite In/Out, JCHI and tokyo incidents vol. 1.

Hi, I would like to buy this great DVD and I noticed there's also a version in a slipcase. Was this an initial release thing and does anyone know where I can get the slipcase version? Thanks... :)
|
I'm not 100% sure about the slipcases on Hatsuiku Status and Gekokujyo Xstasy, but I believe you get them on any old or new copy, but the slipcase for Gekokujyo Xstasy is glow-in-the-dark for first-press only.
You might try Yahoo! Japan Auctions via Shopping Mall Japan for a used copy. When all is said and done with shipping and commissions, expect to spend around $50 USD, not including your deposit. It's an expensive way to go, but it's quite a contrast to the difficult/impossible task of finding most legitimate Japanese release out-of-prints on eBay. |
When i played the DVD today I just wondered: where's Gibusu?
did they play that in Gekokujyo tour? or they just didnt include the song in the DVD? |
I don't know why your font is so big haha...
I believe they might have played Gips, but as with several other songs from her tour, it was cut out of the DVD. These include Can't Take My Eyes Off You (we only here a snippet of it), Koko de Kiss Shite, Yokushitsu, and Onaji Yoru. I forgot who, but someone uploaded these bootleg tracks at the previous ringo jihen forums. |
I've seen a few people comment that this concert is inferior to her other solo concerts, but I don't exactly know why. Could someone fill me in?
|
It's quite simple: the guitarist (Yayoshi) and the keys (Baldy) are inferior. Yayoshi can't play anything from the albums correctly and Baldy just sounds like shit. The same holds true for Zazen, but it's amazingly better than GX. I'll use Izonshou as an example because I was particularly disappointed with it, but it applies to most songs:
|
I don't think anyone is going to say its a bad concert or a bad watch, but in comparison to others it just isn't as :waa:
|
I was never particularly interested in Shiina Ringo lives (or anyone else's) until Dynamite Out and Domestic Virgin Line, so GX was never anything I really paid much attention to. I still haven't sat through the whole thing, although I've seen all of the songs individually. Although I love SS, I'm still not too interested in watching this concert all the way through... But that's mainly because what I've said about not being interested in a concert that doesn't have a familiar band.
|
Its good. the popular opinion is just skewed largely due to EM/DO (and ZX to a lesser extent)
|
If I remember correctly (I haven't watched it in over a year) it's a really good show, but the sound just can't stand up against EM and DO. I still had a lot of fun watching it! I should dig it out...

wowowowowowow
Somebody on youtube uploaded 3 videos (though low-quality) of 3 performances that didn't make the cut onto the DVD! Koko de Kiss Shite, Yattsuke Shigoto, & Gamble! I'm so happy :) http://www.youtube.com/user/gkkjxsts I can tell this performance of Gamble is the same as what's on the ZCS disk, but I'm not sure about the Yattsuke Shigoto one. |
The Yattsuke Shigoto sounds exactly the same except for the last 30 seconds for some reason. Nice find though!
|
I am extremely curious about where those videos were sourced from, since
1.) They're obviously not fan-made, because there are constantly-changing camera angles. 2.) There's no watermark from any television station such as Space Shower. 3.) There are some very VHS-like strobings, color-bleedings, and other fluctuations throughout the clips. Does anyone know if the GX video cassette has more songs in it than the DVD? I personally don't own any of the regular VHSes yet (just the really rare ones), and I think Ringo~Bingo owns all of the regular ones except for GX. |
thank gamble performance.. sounds familiar.. isnt that the one on the live disks?
|
I think it's exactly the same performance of Gamble that was included in ZCS, but I'm not so sure about Yattsuke Shigoto.
|
Um.. koko de kisu shite.
I dont think I have ever heard a live where she actually finishes the song . like the recording. maybe im forgetting one. it was satisfying . |
*orgasm*
I bet it was SR herself who posted it (or someone really close to her, or one crazy collector hybrid of Glath and Pariscombo) I really hope someone finds suguroku Xstasy's honnou, izonshou and kabukichou on youtube |
^ Do you mean the actual performance footage of it, or just the audio?
'coz I have heard the Izonshou audio on Nico Nico Douga. The video has since been removed though. |
the actual performance footage
I have the audio rips too, but I want to see hirama and hzm playing it o.o |
actually, the ZCS audio was taken from Gekokujou Xstasy.. so it's the same
and also, the whole and full dvd is available for download at some kind of music community |
*look around*
Gee wiz, an uploader of Japanese video(s) is actually sharing a DVD-quality rip with an MDS this time? I thought the crowd you're talking about, would never learn. An uploader at another distinct community actually did include an MDS years ago, but guess what? That torrent hasn't been seeded in years. I don't imagine a bunch of MegaUploads links are going to last much longer than the torrent did. |
chances are the entire concert was edited for release and obviously this was put onto tapes and dvd to check/show to execs/ringo/company, etc, and they probably ended up deciding to cut a few tracks after that point. it isn't so rare, someone people just got their hands on one of the discs, or there was an internal leak.
as far as we know this footage hasn't appeared on any version of any release so far, tape or dvd. |
Was there something wrong with the soundboard for this tour? Yayoshi sucks and all, but he's probably not dumb enough to intentionally lower the volume of his guitar when he plays a solo. Yet, it happens every single time during GX. : /
|
its probably how they mastered the levels and audio for the DVD...
|
i always love the baby voice breakdown part in kokode, i like the synth sounds during that part in this performance
|
I like how Yayoshi played an arpeggio during the chorus and let Ringo handle the chord work. No need for two guitars playing the same thing in the song.
|
Watching Gekokujyou Xstasy with my new 5.1 system. Neat!
|
^ Just remember to set the the GX audio to DTS, if your new system supports it ^
It sounds a lot thicker and fuller and more atmospheric than the Dolby. I don't think you even have to be an audiophile to hear the improvement. Oh, and there's a little bit of DTS on the Heisei Fuuzoku DVD too. |
Oh wow, I didn't know, Gekokujyou even had DTS... I'm definitely no audiophile, but you're right the differnece is very obvious.
Thanks! I already checked out the HF DVD DTS stuff... salle de bain was the best in my opinion. |
You can think of the inclusion of the DTS as compensation for the not-so-great video quality. Or, you can think of the not-so-great video quality as the cost of including DTS.
DTS itself does not mandate that the associated video quality must go down, but the DVD standard has a maximum bitrate on all included audio/video options combined. Even if a concert were only 15 minutes and even if there would be plenty of unused space on the disc while bundling great video quality with the DTS, a studio would still be breaking the DVD standard by including both. So EMI had to lower the video quality in order to include DTS, even if they would have wanted to have to get the best of both worlds. So in my philosophy, anyone who watches GX without DTS would be cheating themselves out of "the experience", not because "DTS is the best audio and you should always be listening to whatever is the best", but because you the observer have "paid" for the DTS with the video quality as the price, whether you want the DTS or not. If the video quality is degraded anyway even if you choose not to listen to the available DTS, then by not listening to DTS you would be experiencing less total audio/video quality out of GX than the other concert DVDs - where the better video quality anyone can access wasn't sacrificed for an elite audio format only some people can access. Once you understand this whole situation, you can start to see why they haven't included DTS in anymore of the concert DVDs. It makes a majority of fans get a downgraded experience - while the minority who can actually access the DTS, breaks even. I'm just saying, even if people aren't committing some crime against the universe by watching GX with Dolby Digital, the DTS experience is still something the fans owe themselves. Dolby Digital doesn't make you less of a fan - listening to it on GX only means you aren't taking what's yours. |
Very late response, but Glath, you wouldn't have a pic of the first press glowing in the dark? I'd love to see that. I'm a peasant and only own normal version :-(
Also, I think PCM 2.0 is still best way to go with music anything |

I prefer 5.1 for lives. I like the surround speakers being reserved for the crowd noise while the front three get a slightly better mix. Ringo's guitar often gets lost in the mix when it's only 2.0 stereo. |
