The Music Video-Game Thread

There are quite a few Rock Band/Guitar Hero/Bemani fans here so this thread is to prevent the videogame thread from being overloaded with rhythm game discussion.

Anyway, onto the big release of the year Rock Band: The Beatles. They've just announced two standalone wireless guitars, Lennon's Rickenbacker 325 and Harrison's Gretsch Duo Jet. $99, €99 and £89.99. I really wish one of these was in the bundle instead of Paul's Höfner bass; or at least have different bundles with a different instrument in each so we can choose. Oh well...

The Rock Band: The Beatles pre-order club opened today too. If you pre-order you receive a code which allows you access to the club and all of it's special content (which will no doubt be all over the web the minute it appears).

I doubt we'll see any gameplay or setlist announcements until E3.

I think I'll be going with the Rick.

I thought this thread is a game of music videos. hahahaha.

:P I made the title a bit more obvious.

Edit: Updated the op with instrument box art because it is sexy.

I'm pretty excited about the new Beatles game. Should be the best band based game yet!

Also, anyone here ever thought about how cool it would be to have a Japanese version of Rock Band? It may already exist but if it doesn't, it's a cool idea. Elite Beat Agents and Ouendan are basically the same games but with different music so I know it's been done before.

And seeing a SR/TJ setlist on a game like this would just be awesome.

I love rock band. I'm gonna have to buy a cheap xbox so I can get access to all the online content...

It was announced, but nothing has happened with it yet. I expect X Japan and Luna Sea to be in it if it ever happens. Sounan would be perfect for this type of game.

Harmonix announced a "heavily localized" version of Rock Band for Japan in June last year but they never announced a date and not much has been heard about it since. I think X-Japan was the only confirmed band. The main problem is that it won't see a release outside of Japan and EA region lock their games. I'm sure a number of songs will appear as DLC though. They'd be dumb to not want to allow as many people as possibly access to the songs and I'm sure it doesn't cost them much to have them available on the marketplace.

Awesome. You could play with us if we ever actually get around to getting together. I'm drum-less for 4 months, though I'm happy to play Guitar/Bass.

Also, is it true that the singer online can project their voice by holding a trigger on the pad? I was always frustrated at not hearing the vocalist and assumed it was due to lag issues... does it actually work, I've never tried?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking is that even if it were released, it wouldn't be region-free. But I know for a fact that X-Japan's "I.V." is on Rock Band 2 so the possibility of downloadable Japanese songs is definitely there. It would be pretty damn cool to be able to just start up Rock Band and download even more Japanese songs.

You should note that X song is completely in English.
