Oh, I was taught that boku was neutral and that watashi was more feminine than boku. My teacher actually told me not to use watashi for that reason. (I'm a guy)
Now, I don't know enough about sentence structure, but apparently the way a sentence is composed is also masculine/feminine. Like ending the sentence with "wa" to soften it. Does she do anything like that in her early songs? |
I have a Japanese friend who is male who always uses "watashi" I did ask him why since every other guy in his age bracket always uses "boku" and he said that it implied reserve and politeness, and that's why it could be seen as female.
I guess it's the same way that some guys choose "boku" over "ore" which is seen as very uber-manly/rough. |
