I think Greg will recover well from this surgery since recent patients (Amare and Kellen Winslow II) have recovered nicely from the surgery. It will however set him and the franchise back a few years.

I feel that the trade was an extremely smart move by Steve Kerr. They weren't going anywhere without a true big man next to Amare. Marion was probably a 3 loss streak away from shooting up his teammates. This gives them a good 2 season window for a championship. You don't play for the future, you play so that you can win now and they've put themselves in a position to win.

There's a very good chance that that's how it''ll play out. I would still not rule out the Spurs though, there's nobody better at opponents down and having them play the way the Spurs want them to play. I don't think the Mavs have it in them without Kidd.
