Reimport, really? I thought her English on Amagasa, for one, was excellent...

I mean, OK, I realize she's not perfect, and there are plenty of songs she's sung that are difficult to decipher. But Ringo is probably the only Japanese singer I can think of whose English is good enough not to completely take one out of the moment.

You can fill your life with those Ringo songs, but you can never fill your soul.

Kinda sorta Ringo news, but Ko Shibasaki is covering Jihen's Shiseikatsu on her new album.

Harmless song, so harmless to do a cover of it I suppose.

Was wondering when they'd collaborate together after Ringo did the theme song for her drama. This isn't exactly collaborating, but I could definitely see Ringo writing and producing a song for her in the future.

Shiina's performing at another festival this summer. On Saturday, August 1st, she'll be performing at the ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL 2015.

The festival takes place at the Hitachi Seaside Park in Ibaraki prefecture.

Nice looking park.

Let's talk Saihate Ga Mitai for a bit. Afterall, this is the first 'new' release since that last single that noone remembers anymore.

This time, my feelings are mainly positive. The actual base song is quite good, has a nice melody and overall the way it's been reworked into a rock version from the original is... acceptable.

But (and I don't think I'm alone here), I get a real overwhelming sense of 'yeah, that'll do' here. Of course, this is an anime tie in and it's obviously just a quick 'hey I'm still around' kind of single while we wait for the next main release. What I mean is that while the song starts quite strong, after about the half way mark, it just feels like they're playing to get it up to 3 minutes.

After the great start- including some really good vocals by Ringo- and yes, they are very good here, and some pretty interesting guitar tone choices reminiscent of Gamble, things suddenly start to get sloppy, it almost feels as if someone has missed a beat and it's slightly out of time. The oomph the track started with is all but gone by the end and it feels exhausting by the time the track is finally over.

I'm not quite sure what went wrong here- the same song in the Expo 14 version did not suffer this. Perhaps it's because the slack was filled by Neko or something. I don't blame Ringo at all for this one- because I'm satisfied with her actual performance- and I know that the original song is actually quite compelling.

Shame then, that this studio version is so flawed. Maybe she shoulda made it more like the Sayuri Ishikawa version- but then again, the studio demanding it for their anime film probably wanted something more... 'anthemic'.

Oh well, good effort I suppose.

7/10.
