...sure are some defensive people in this thread...

I'm sure singers for one would be interested in these videos.

EDIT: I mean, the video is titled "Ringo Shiina Vocal range" not "boy this chick sure can't sing." They have these vocal range videos on many vocalists.

I'm more about watching porn than wasting my time with vocal range videos, really...

Yes, as a somewhat-trained singer it interests me to know what kind of vocal range she has, what her natural vocal part would be in chorus, etc. The fact that she basically has the same vocal range as a prime Whitney Houston was a surprise to me.

Obviously not going to be as interesting to the general public. It's the same way as some guitar players are interested in how fast Steve Vai can play a riff or a certain scale. Some of it is natural talent, but a great vocal range shows technical proficiency as well.

I don't get why you think I'm being defensive. I'm just pointing out how pointless and innacurate the video is.

The other thing: the songs in the video are taken from various points in her career. Her voice has changed a lot since she started, so that can hardly be called her current vocal range.

I really don't see that warrant in picking this a part. There is a point and calling inaccuracy based on a singers voice changing over time is arbitrary. All these videos are like this.

Techniques play an important part in music. It can add more variety to musicality. It is pretty hard to have variety if you have a small vocal range. That's not to say that you can't impress people without it.

Absolutely. It's like other folks are wildly interested in which guitars/amps/etc. certain bands or musicians use.
If you're taking singing lessons yourself, this kind of technical analysis is pretty rad.

I don't really know where to put this but apparently when Ringo and her babydaddy first hooked up, HE WAS STILL MARRIED. So when they got married (on her birthday??? whaaat), they didn't have a wedding or a reception, as he had only gotten divorced TWO MONTHS BEFORE.

claaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaassy!

And while I'd read the English translation of Ringo's note she posted on her website to announce her pregnancy, I'm reading the original for the first time and I am really shocked at how specific she gets. She would neeeever be this open today, haha. According to her, and this is news to me, the pregnancy was PLANNED (even though... he was still married to someone else at the time...????). She clarifies it was not a situation of "Oopsie, looks like I'm pregnant and we have to get married! I caught you!" which is sadly common enough in Japan to have a word describing it. They both wanted this to happen, and they only did it once and she got pregnant. (YES, THIS IS IN THE LETTER.) I just... what. It was planned?!?!? Why????? What made her think having a baby with a currently married man was going to be a good idea?? And she says the reason she chose him was his guitar skills. What...............?

And then I just love, in contrast to Ringo's long, gushy release, Junji just writes "I'm serious." Clearly you WEREN'T, since you were divorced a little over a year later.

Also, in one of her recent blog entries, she mentions her son is taking piano lessons. Of course!

(yes, I'm currently doing a lot of research)
