Thanks once again for your work, Frecklegirl. Interestingly, I recently discovered something in a Kanji iPod app of mine, this Kanji:

茈 (むらさき) = A plant yielding red dye

Though "purple" is the most common definition of "murasaki" I know of, Ringo went through a "biology phase" not long afterwards with Hatsuiku Status. Also, Ringo mentions being "colored" ("dondon anata ni somerareyuku") in "Mokuren no Cream" (yet another plant reference). I mean, she also makes allusions to color (there's also purple dots on the cover), but I think this plant definition is also significant. I think the usage of hiragana alludes to this ambiguity. Maybe this word had some sort of important double-symbolism to her or Rie?
