When I first heard Gunjo, I lost a bit of faith in TJ. The Lady is a Tramp just made things worse, I was quite put off by her singing. Plus, the Gunjo video was terrible.
And then came Sounan, which was pure SR (even SR herself said so!) And that restored my faith in SR again

I agree with Mr. Jihad about Gunjo. Fluffie, as a fan of Radiohead do you find The Bends uninteresting because it is generic in comparison to the rest of their catalogue (Pablo Honey not included)? In my mind The Bends was only ever bettered song for song by OK Computer. Though I am strangely more enticed by Kid A...

Shuraba for me.
Overall, anything by TJ has become a hit or miss with me (by miss I mean good but still likely to skip). The only single that has escaped that is Shuraba. Gunjo is just a weak single, first two songs on it are okay and Kao is really good. Sounan is good as is Kokoro but Dynamite freaks me out a little. Shuraba is averagely good I can't openly bad mouth any of the songs (Koi wa Maboroshi gets close thought with its double entendre). In OSCA I tend to skip Pinocchio cuz it gets boring half wa through. |

I think Gunjou Biyori is a good song, but it's not as interesting to me as mostly every other Tokyo Jihen song. It's on the same level as Ringo no Uta and, well that's about the only other one I feel that way about (exclusing b-sides). They're not bad songs, and they're still better than mostly everything else out there because of the vocals, but they don't excite me like Shiina Ringo's other work.
While Thom Yorke's voice always adds points to anything he performs, a lot of the songs on the album sound too much like something another band could have written (aside from Street Spirit and a few other gems). And that's not saying I don't like the album, because I really do. I'm just much more interested in Kid A, Amnesiac, and Hail to the Thief. |

Easily Sounan.
I find all three songs on it to be deliciously delectable. |

Shuraba for sure. I absolutely despise Dynamite and Lady is a Tramp. It's a travesty that they always seem to play them live.

Actually, she said that song was pure Tokyo Jihen as it was one of the last songs written for the album and I believe the only one not written during the Sugoroku tour.

Maybe not my favorite, but I love "Genjitsu wo Warau".
"Maybe I will kiss you slowly... maybe quickly... maybe na...T na...T" It's like she's stressing the differences btwn English & Japanese, by not pronouncing it as "na...Tou" |

Frankly i'm surprised by all the Gunjou Biyori bashing going on in here. I know "Lady" is one of her worst songs ever, Gunjou was a kickass rock song and the video wasn't half bad.
Shuraba gets my pick as my fav TJ single though. Sounan was the better song but all three songs on Shuraba was just top notch. |
