It depends on to what extent you are a collector. If you're a big one then they should all matter.

If you're a "big collector", then every compilation like "Happy Birthday, John" totally matters. I have yet to meet anyone who has bought that mainly or only because they're a Shiina Ringo fan. There have to be at least a dozen multi-artist compilation/tribute albums you can find one Shiina Ringo track in, but only three out of those dozen compilations/tributes are giving you something from Shiina Ringo that was never before available on CD. Anything beyond that is akin to buying a second-press after you already have the first-press.
For someone to already be a Shiina Ringo fan before they've heard any of those albums, and actually care about owning more than three of the multi-artist compilation/tribute albums as a Shiina Ringo fan.. is a level of insanity that I haven't seen any Shiina Ringo fans reach yet. People would rather get a 5-track promo compilation of only Shiina Ringo tracks because the CD is rare and has unique Shiina Ringo cover art. The primary criteria of Shiina Ringo collecting are: a.) The CD/DVD/etc. has material/goodies from Shiina Ringo that you don't already own (cover art qualifies if the audio/video don't) b.) More Shiina Ringo fans would want to own it, than the amount who could actually have it - despite a possible breach of A. There are other possible criteria, but those are the big two. A big collector would sooner buy all the Bs they possibly could before worrying about owning multiple Yuming albums.

I don't see any value in owning multiple compilations put out by another company just to keep getting the same song among various reshuffled non-related acts, to buy the first version of the compilation is enough and to buy any more thereafter would be kinda insane as it's not from the favored Artist directly and there is no bonuses for buying the rehash.

I wouldn't collect all of the different compilations either, but I think that would be a more complete than having lots of copies of the same album.
I don't see the point in owning several copies of the same item -- and keeping in their packaging never to be examined. But then I don't get into collecting for selling later, which I assume is the point of doing such things. |

collecting multiple YUMING editions is INSANE.
I think you have to look at what type of collector you I consider myself a functional collector; being my main focus is obtaining a legit full discography. I want every song ringo has worked on through as legit channels as possible. so I buy all her official works, collaborations, penned tracks for other artists, etc, and I tend to buy the LP's, deluxe, and standard edition of all first hand ringo material. past that, if I have a copy of this song and it is put on another compilation, unless it was remixed, I don't really care. |
