Guys, thank you for recommending Marina & The Diamonds. She's become my current obsession O_O. I'm loving 'Hollywood', 'I Am Not A Robot' and 'Mowgli's Road'. Soooo looking forward to this debut album .
Oh, and M.I.A.'s third album! Great, I love her! 'Kala' is one of my favourite albums of all time. By the way, there's already a new song by her, that was first posted on her official Twitter. Don't know if it will be featured on the new album, tho:
EDIT: OMG, didn't know about YUKI's new album either o_o! This is gonna be a great year in terms of music. I feel it XD. Last edited by Orenji : 2010.01.16 at 06:13 AM. |

I was just forced to watch an Aya concert on TV. I can tell you I'm not looking forwar to any releases by her.
Of Montreal. Genius. My own demo. Thats about it, I'm kind of out of touch. |

Nothing very rock/pop-related so far
Matthew Shipp - 4D
John Zorn (performers: Sofia Koutsovitis, Malika Zarra, Ayelet Rose Gottlieb, Basya Schecter) - Mycale: The Book of Angels, Volume 13 (The first primarily vocal recording of any of this Zorn songbook, with a pretty unusual approach to a cappella vocals.) Sunny Jain Collective - Taboo |

Marina and the Diamonds
I can't get any real read on "Hollywood," or I guess I mean I can't get any read on my own response to it.
I could easily see myself deciding it is absolutely awful, but I could also see this becoming one of my favorite albums of the year; and I can also even imagine neither loving nor hating it in the end. But it seems pretty certain that I'm going to be sniffing around and taste testing until I've reached some kind of conclusion. Someone on another thread, on another board, posted a comment about another song by them, something along the lines of: "this does everything I normally hate but for someone reason I love it," and I could somehow see myself ending up in a similar place. I hate the Shakira-like vocal mannerisms that pop up in places (on "Hollywood"), but there's something interesting about the total package. (On that cover photo she reminds me a bit of my glamorous niece who lives in L.A. and has done some acting and modeling.) Last edited by Superficial Fan : 2010.01.19 at 04:40 PM. |

Oh, March! Er, it's a bit hard to imagine from what I've heard of him and SDS (Who are great, btw) |

Totally looking forward to that. Seventh Tree was the best album of 2008 IMO. I'm already loving Rocket, the first single from Head First. So 80s:

I am now really excited about the forthcoming Marina album, now that my brain has been colonized by a few of her songs (especially "I Am Not A Robot" and "Mowgli's Road"). Maybe I'd even call myself a fan at this point.
(& I don't usually pre-order CDs, but there's a band out of Japan called Tokyo Jihen, whose next album I've ordered already.) |

Earthlings: "We like to think of this project as an EMOTION PICTURE... this music is transformative." --Janelle Monáe & The W.A.S
I'm looking forward to this album so damn much it isn't even funny, and it still hasn't got a release date. I'm guessing by the vague updates on Twitter that there will be something soon. |
