Because their marketing is bad.
I've seen movies where the trailer constructed storyline that never existed without even touching the main plot. And because Sony is probably responsible for their marketing, if they are able to tell them to do another extra level just for a demo. And if you have another one do your marketing, what will be the result? Cool looking action scenes. Nothing else matters if it's about PR.

Endigns for the junkyard scene I've read about so far:
The ending that was shown, the black guy is killed and you leave empty handed. An ending where you manage to get your drugs (In the demo the player didn't succeed in that) and bring the black guy into custody, to hear what he has to say. You kill the black guy when threatening him with the weapon. Before any of that, you avoid the black guy, investigate the scene sneaking around and find the car you're searching for around the back of the junkyard. And of course the "you are killed" ending. And I don't like the idea of one char dying so far. If it turns out, that you get the coolest ending, when a certain chars dies and a certain point, that would be cool, and give that idea some sense

Suikoden Tierkreis is pretty awesome so far (about 3-4? hours in).
I love the main character's voice actor. The woman at Gamestop who sold me the game warned me about his voice, but I think it's great. He speaks really fast a lot of the time like he's trying to get everything in before time runs out, but for some reason that makes it sound more realistic to me. Iunno. Oh, and the game is fun too. |

I heard the Godfather was really good. Second's pretty awesomely bad, huh?
I just finished MGS4 the other day. I started it a while back and got to the second act and just never played after that. So I decided to start a new game and beat the whole thing in one day. Yes, I was THAT addicted. God, what a great game. I don't even care that most of the cutscenes are practically movies themselves. It's just so damn fun. And to my knowledge it's the only game where you can listen to J-pop music on an iPod while gunning down PMCs in the middle of South America. That alone makes it awesome. Though as much as I love the latest game, MGS1 still holds the record for best in the series to me. Nothing can compare to the nostalgia of me and my cousin staying up all night to finish that game and taking turns after each other died. Once we got the infinite ammo after saving Meryl, we pretty much never put it down. I have nothing but good memories playing that game.

You might be surprised how unoriginal Bioshock was, then
I've only played a bit of it and never finished either SS game, but at the beginning of Bioshock I was like "Wait, I've seen this like what? 9 years ago?" add to that how I've heard even the storyline of Bioshock is basically same as SS2's (from those who played or finished both - can't confirm nor deny) and you have one of the more overhyped games in recent memory. Nobody's going to play System Shock 2 nowadays if they aren't "veteran" players already because it doesn't look pretty and the game doesn't do everything for you. The sad thing about it all is that the prettier the games look, the more bored to death I am while playing them. I think the most recent game I was really enjoying was Condemned in 2006 and I'm not really compelled to replay even that one. I'm still curious how this sequel is going to turn out since they'll probably have to come up with a new storyline |

I haven't played SS either but from what I've seen it looks nothing like BioShock and what makes BioShock so original to me is it's location, art style and atmosphere. The story, whether borrowed from SS or not, is still utterly fantastic especially by video game standards. Same with the gameplay. It still stands in a genre overrun with bald space marines fighting aliens so regardless of how much it borrowed from it's predecessors I think it's unfair to call it overhyped, especially since you're judging possibly the most celebrated game of the generation on word of mouth.
