Shouso Strip + KZK + Kyouiku + Adult.
Don't buy anything else besides these 4 albums.

I'm going to recommend Heisei Fuuzoku as well, since there's a very, very interesting bit of classical-y arrangement to it. I personally love the album for it, even if it is just self-covers. And Neko is one hell of a violinist ("Meisai"...!)

That said, it's probably not the best place to *start*. I started with SS era, actually (fell in love with her "Honnou" video, ha ha...) and just sort of went from there. Chronological order seems, to me, a reasonable idea.

I'd also advise watching her music videos on the Internet; it may give you an idea for what you want to start with.

I'll cut my rambling now.

Variety.

Haha, no! I'm joking xD. Buy KZK, SS or Mayonaka wa Junketsu.

Emil is right as always. Used Japanese CDs are usually flawless. I love BOOK*OFF. It is almost as if Japanese buy things presuming that they are temporary custodians who will have to only pay a small initial ownership fee as long as they respect their possessions. Lucky you and me!

It doesn't matter where you start, as long as you listen to ALL THREE solo albums.

My first Ringo track was Morphine, then I jumped onto KSK (Torikoshi Kurou and Okonomide and Ishiki) then ADULT Shuraba then Shouso Strip then back to KSK then back to Shouso Strip then Muzai Moratorium -- bah, basically, I listened to all her solo stuff completely randomly, fell in love, THEN listened to the albums seperately. I did KSK before MM, but still love MM all the same. I don't necessarily see KSK as superior to MM because they sound different.

But to be different, maybe you should start with Watashi no Houden, which is a collection of her B-Sides. It's a good mixture of whiny teen Ringo, crazy Ringo, sweet calm Ringo and jazzy Ringo.

Heisei Fusoku sounds really interesting - Saito Neko is that violinist right? The one who played the violin part in Meisai? (which I love right now).
I was originally going to say you should start from the beginning with Muzai Moratorium, but after some thought I don't think it matters. Many of the songs from her first three album were actually written around the same time before her debut. The only real difference is the amount of instruments she decided to use. You can't go wrong with any of them.

Having said that I think you should start with the Ringo no Uta single, Mayonaka wa Junketsu single and Shouso Strip. Shouso Strip is the middle ground between Muzai and KZK. Eccentric yet still youthful. Ringo no Uta and Mayonaka are just two great non-album singles that show off her ability to rock without a rock band.

Saito also plays violin on one song from Muzai if that helps sway you in that direction.

Thanks for all the suggestions!
I'm going to start out with Shouso Strip as a medium (and it has most of the singles I know as of now) and buy both KZK and Muzai some time later. I'm dying to hear what Heisei's like, so I'll buy that as well.
I know I'll end up buying everything anyway once I'm addicted.

I'm so excited. XD
