The second track reminds me a bit of "capsule" (their songs closer to Brazilian rhythms with electronic sounds) and that Izawa-esque approach at Latin genres. Can anyone confirm if it's actually him playing there?
Third track, nice song that would fit perfectly in Sanmon Gossip as one of the more calm ones between the madness, hence in that hypothetical bizarre album kuro_neko mentioned. Shiina, well played at 2:45. |

The third one is my favourite, the instrumentation kinda sorta reminded me of Poesy by Togawa, then it has the SG elements mixed in too. Hence why I could only say OH WOW

Second track is 3:02 and third track is 4:28. Third track's vocals at 1:14 and I think 2:00 sounds almost exactly like Konoyo and is imitated by other instruments. I compared the single more to Konoyo because two of the songs reminded me in part to two of the songs on the Konoyo single.

Wow, jeez for real. I interpreted it the same way Maou did, and it doesn't seem a big deal either way.
Oh, and I haven't given this a listen yet.

I like this single! Especially track 2, but I think either of the B-sides would have made for a better single than Onna no Ko. It's also an indication that Shiina's still pretty reliable when it comes to churning out songs (at least regarding her solo career, etc., you get the point).
On the other hand, #6 on the daily charts which, to be fair, is only poor by her very high standards and the fact that there are like 358973 new releases this week. |

call me over dramatic or whatever, I still think your claim is bullshit. the only thing in the third track that would recall Kono yo no Kagiri would be her phrasing and parts of the percussion, but you didn't say the production or the percussion, you said the melody, which is night and day different.
I have the legit single, in case anyone is wondering about the credits, all three songs are credited as lyrics and music by Ringo with track 1 and 3 arranged by Saito Neko. Saito Neko conducts orchestra on all three tracks. Tokyo Jihen is credited as box, piano, guitar, bass, and percussion on all three tracks. Ringo is also credited as the manipulator together with Nakayama (her usual manipulator) on track #2. this feels like a pretty cohesive single considering everyone and their mom is on this one. I don't think this bodes so well for a solo Ringo album, it would appear that she probably only released this under her solo name because it doesn't fit the Jihen name in nature and scope. Had this been rock music it probably would have been Jihen. I sure hope Ringo doesn't consider to pen one-offs that don't fit Jihen or a certain concept and and just release it under her own name, that would water down her work and image for sure. |

I wonder if her public persona actually HAS changed?
I mean, not in Jihad-land, but in Japan. What does the Japanese public (not the 2chan NEETs) think about her? |

I want to know what people think of her, except the people that don't like her.
EDIT: Okay, I'm going to make an assumption that at the very leastkid's parents are more receptive to her now that shes "polite old lady Shiina" and not "all in yo' face Shiina."
