Blade Runner wins on so many levels. I love Vangelis' music from that time. After reading your post I went to YouTube and found this fan video with the main title and end credits music. For years there was no Vangelis version of the soundtrack available, just a crappy fake orchestral one.

Yeah, I read about it on Wikipedia yesterday and was really surprised. I mean, it's Vangelis, a very (very) popular composer at that time, how could it not be released with the movie?
Anyway, this soundtrack is really amazing, I don't know why I didn't grab it earlier. I'm a big fan of the movie, altough I never really cared much about related material (except the original book), until recently. I finished the 1997 PC game yesterday (one of the 13 endings) and it was really good as a side-story to the movie. Now I'm getting some soundtracks and bootlegs and finally... I have to buy the damn DVD. In my town, I could only find the Blue-Ray, which I don't have a player for. Hopefully I'll find it when I go to Lisbon. Thanks for the video btw, it made me want to watch the movie again so bad D: |

I noticed the "Utada"-ishness to it, but frankly it's killed by the beat that sounds like any random RnB "hit" from past few years, and I'm not starting anything about the lyrics, they're just bad.
I'm still going to listen to the album of course, I'm too curious for that. Maybe the rest is going to be better - IMO Easy Breezy was one of the weakest songs on Exodus, funny or not... Blade Runner OST is probably the most stunning movie soundtrack I've heard, and defintely one of them. The thing about it first being released in 1994 surprised me as well, but the most important thing is it actually got released. What's the difference between the original version from that year and this 25th anniversary edition? |

The 25th Anniversary Edition consists of 3 discs, and from what I could gather (Wiki and the place where I got it) the 1st disc is exactly the same one released on 1994. The 2nd disc contains previously unreleased tracks and the 3rd disc contains new pieces inspired by the movie (they are actually very good, imo).
CLT: Vangelis - Blade Runner Blues This is track 7 on disc 1. Eight minutes of awesome synths. |

Rarely(?) told connection between Blade Runner and Metropolis.
This 1978 piece was similar to 1982 piece Blade Runner End Titles. |

The Man Machine was one of my favorite albums in high school. I saw them during their 1981 Computer World tour. Awesome.
Vangelis did not authorize the release of his soundtrack at the time of the movie's release because he had a falling out with Ridley Scott. I think he was annoyed that Scott kept re-editing scenes. |
