Currently listening to part 1 of the BBC documentary on some modern bands re-recording Sgt Peppers to celebrate it's 40th birthday using only the original equipment (And subsequently showing the shortcomings of modern artists). Looking forward to part 2, if only for A Day In The Life (Don't know who's covering it).

Ned Rothenberg: Inner Diaspora

My favorite release so far this year, not that I've heard that many.

Kind of on the modern-classical-meets-jazz-meets-various-ethnic-traditions tip, so you have been. . . warned?

I thought of you when I posted about this album. This seems like the type of thing you'd like. It's actually pretty accessible though, for this side of thihngs. (He doesn't play a whole lot of shakuhachi on this, though.) This is very composed material, but it sounds like there's a fair amount of space for improvisation as well. Every musician playing on turns in an excellent performance. Violinist Mark Feldman, who appears on a lot of other Tzadik releases, in particular stretches out in wonderful (but rarely dissonant or difficult) ways.

Le Muhr - Generation Destruktiv

I saw this band live yesterday. The female vocalist reminded me of Ringo through clothes, style, and charisma. This music however is "synthpop in Swedish".

& Kent, I guess they are a very talented band, but they only remind me of being a fourteen-year-old geek with pink hair and no self-confidence

I can't tell from the English in the song if it is or not (though it's doubtful), but here are the lyrics.

SAIDO MIRA- ni wa awai utsuro na sora
RAI mugibatake wo samayotteru BATAFURAI
soshite atashi wa kooritsuita yume

mune ni daita mukizu no mirai
tadashii owari nado nakute
tomadou keredo kuyami wa shinai

So, You don't have to kiss me & say good night
asu wo egakezu torinokosarete
Does anyone care if I cannot say goodbye?
koe wo nakushite tachitsukusu dake
tachitsukusu dake...

tachiyuragu kagerou GASORIN no kaori
ano hi atashi wa eien ni kieta

kawarihateta mujou dakara
hito wa koe wo age nageku
hitotsubu sae wasure ya shinai

* So, You don't have to kiss me & say good night
aenai negai wo hanataba ni shite
Does anyone care if I cannot say goodbye?
toki ni se wo muke arukisaru dake
