^ Hmm. Interesting. Not my thing though. I'm more interested in nail art and that sort of stuff...I'd take a pic of these nails I have on now but I can't seem to do so without revealing my face LMAO (I'm using my macbook's phonebooth).
edit: hey sorry to bother y'all again, but is there a story to the Meisai MV? (Umm, it's pretty obvious that there is but I just can't figure out what) Last edited by CARMEN : 2007.11.09 at 03:01 PM. |

Lime ≠ The citrus fruit, but CaO (calcium oxide)
Chalk is derived from limestone. In this case, I believe they're pretty much the same thing.

Yeah, and sometimes it's called "mason's lime." The fruit lime has never been what it means.

Ok. It seems that the heated arguments have cooled down, lol. (I am glad)
I absolutely love KSK--one of the best albums I have ever heard in my life. I love this album for one main reason: I hate artist who do the same damn thing every album, as in staying in one genre just because they're good at it. (But I'm not saying that Shiina Isn't good at what she does, cause its really obvious that she is very good.) MM was excellent for a first album, SS was good, although at times I felt it was kinda similar to MM. UM is a lovely cover album. Now when we get to KSK, It shows that she had something hidden up her sleeve. I'm not saying that she can never do it again (I for one felt that HF was somewhat close). Variety, although a TJ album I know, it proves that Shiina isn't going to do the same thing over and over and over again. |

I don't know why you're so keen on a proper translation, but I'd go with chalk because phonetically, it's closer.

Hahah, believe me, my original goal from years ago was to find the DEFINITIVE accurate translation of it. I tried so hard! XD But it's more or less impossible. English just doesn't have a good, succinct equivalent, unfortunately.
Even "Chalk," as JR said, doesn't fully express it. Most people think sidewalk or blackboard chalk when they see that, and this kind of chalk is a little different. I'm pretty sure "Mason's Lime" is the closest you can get... though it's not the best. |

Then how about "Cement" ? Most of internet cdshops, selling KSK licensed version in our country, titled it as "Cement".

This discussion has made me want to translate it in French (well, find a good equivalent), just to see if the same problems would present.
In French Karuki can be more accurately rendered by Calcaire (Limestone), which sounds pretty much like Kalk. The problem is with Saamen... In French there's no direct word to translate this, we'd say Sperme. Semence would sound more like Saamen, but the first thing you think if you hear Semence is seeds used in agriculture, so I guess it would be more accurate to go with Sperme. And Kuri no Hana would be Fleur de châtaignier (no problem here either). "Calcaire, sperme, fleur de châtaignier" |
