Google Trend data
I found these results quite surprising. Japan doesn't even appear in the list of top ten regions. And what's up with Pleasanton, CA?

Japan doesn't appear in the Top Ten because they are hardly using Romaji. Try searching Yahoo! Japan Auctions for "Shiina Ringo", and you will find absolutely nothing. Search Y!JA for the standard Kanji name and you'll find hundreds of items. Google Trends is probably affected by the same behavior. Try plugging in 椎名林檎 and 東京事変, and you'll get a very different set of graphs.

Um, yeah, that does make a lot of sense. Revised graph. Pleasanton CA remains a mystery. USA subregion ranking
