It is hard to choose, but at this point I think I'm still a bigger Carnavas fan. I'm expecting that moment to come when I finally "get" Swoon and perhaps prefer it Carnavas, but that sometimes takes a little while (it was about a month before I preferred Adult to Education, and about a year before I found Radiohead listenable). I think I did take the first step the other day though; I was in the kitchen washing dishes when "Growing Old is Getting Old" came up on my playlist and I was kind of blown away for the first time by the song. Sometimes listening to a good song amidst other styles of music really makes you hear it in a different way. I was sort of looking for a new Lazy Eye too, and was a little disappointed when there was nothing like it on Swoon. That's not to say I think any of it is bad; I'm very pleased with pretty much everything this band has done, aside from the two bonus tracks from the Japanese Carnavas release. Those really just bore me. Also, nice taste with the Misako Odani. Have you heard "Tereru You na Hikari"? I have an .avi of the music video (which is pretty simple but nice to watch), but I don't see it on youtube - at least not romanized. She's in my top 5 of Japanese musicians. |

Just heard two songs from a Taiwanese singer-songwriter called Peggy Hsu 許哲珮 for the first time. The music may not be to everyone's taste, but the lyrics are quite ingenious.
This song starts off with 22 adjectives... Here's my rough translation 黑的白的紅的黃的 紫的綠的藍的灰的 你的我的他的她的 大的小的圓的扁的 好的壞的美的丑的 新的舊的 各種款式各種花色任你選擇/任我選擇 black, white, red, yellow, purple, green, blue, gray yours, mine, his, hers, big, small, round, flat good, bad, beautiful, ugly, new, old all styles, all colours, for you to choose (1st time)/for me to choose (2nd time) 飛的高高越遠越好 剪斷了線它就死掉 壽命短短高興就好 喜歡就好沒大不了 越變越小越來越小 快要死掉也很驕傲 the higher it flies the better; cut the strings and it dies though life be short just be happy; great, if you like it, it's no big deal becoming smaller and smaller; soon to die, though still proud 你不想說就別再說 我不想聽不想再聽 就把一切誓言當作氣球一般 隨它而去 我不在意不會在意 放它而去隨它而去 stop speaking if you don't want to speak; I don't want to listen, no longer want to listen let all the promises go as if they were balloons I won't mind, would not mind; release them, let them go 氣球 飄進雲裡 飄進風裡 結束生命 氣球 飄進愛裡 飄進心裡 慢慢死去 balloons, floating into the clouds, floating into the wind, ending its life balloons, floating into love, floating into the heart, slowly dying
I can't be bothered translating the whole song. Here's some extracts... 你覺得我瘋了 我瞬間耳鳴 聽不見你們說的 我瘋言 我瘋語 眼淚讓我瞎了 模糊我眼前丗界 原來快樂要用悲傷換得 you think that I've gone crazy suddenly, my ears ring; can't hear what you people are saying I speak in delirium; tears have made me blind blurring the world before my eyes now I know that happiness can only be gained with sadness Last edited by D.K.Liu : 2009.04.24 at 09:12 PM. Peggy Hsu's cool. She had the best stuff on MTV Taiwan back when I was still watching it. Balloons is one of my favourites. Good attempt at translation, but it just doesn't have the same mood as the Chinese original. That song never fails to give me goosebumps everytime I listen to it.

amai yamai-maboroshi feat shiina ringo
it grows on you with great stealth.... I actually heard some of their other music and it runs the gammit of all styles, its actually not as bad as you would think. this song tends to be a bit more cheesy in the rap portions than the other ones, but ringo's vocals are heavenly. |
