Looks like they really hated the West in Egypt back in the 40s.
But it's not just an imitation of Hollywood, by any means, musically anyway. Her singing is spectacular in terms of Arab classical vocal technique. But check out the Hawaiian steel guitar. And god she was beautiful. I do sometimes wonder what Egyptian music would have been in the following decades if both Asmahan and Oum Kalthoum had been alive and active. |

Listening to the new Neil Young, Le Noise. If you are somewhat of a fan but have been put off by most of what he's put out in, oh, ten or fifteen years, you still might want to give this a chance. It's definitely different from what he's been putting out.
