The single is what I expect from Ringo in general. I never thought in my life I'd hear something like this. Its like Ringo's solo recent stuff, mixed with a little Jihen, a little 90's (pop, grunge) and then some modern pop. I'm still rather shell shocked and rather tipsy XD

kuro, when I meant 'at the same time', I didn't literally mean that she was all with them at 5pm, but they're interweaving with each other. The entire song or 'story' takes place within the same 'three minutes' (Not of literal time). If they wanted to show her spending time with them for three minutes then having to quickly 'move on to the next', then it would make sense to have the segments with the separate members of the band take place in linear order. I just don't see the 'moving on to the next' thing. There isn't a definitive interpretation.
I'm not bothered about 'who has the right interpretation' though -- just what this whole thing is implying. Re: Izawa, what's funny is that the 'Don't look back brother' bit is sung when she is throwing the roses at him. Izawa leaving is worse than Hirama/HZM leaving, in my world... I'm not sure of the meaning of the song/PV myself, not understanding Japanese. But from Google Translating the lyrics and watching the PV, it almost seems like the song is about having fun being a little promiscuous as a woman. There's a part that Google translated as "Lamented the gender equality at the", which is making me think it's kind of mentioning something about it being okay for men, but not for woman. I think this part:
溜息にして無情常 嘆いても時は男女平等 ... however, of course you can't rely on Google Translate to get the meaning correctly, so if that means something totally different, then please correct me. (: But the video is suggesting SR is having dates with each of the members at a different time in the same day (she's wearing the same exact outfit for each date) -- which suggests she doesn't want to stay with one man at the moment. the lyrics don't really go into the man vs. woman gender equality issue, but there is a line mentioning men and woman's equal rights, which is later reemphasized as equal dislike for our parents (it works in japanese based on the kanji). on a whole, I think the song is speaking to the place of music in our lives. it has an overall tone of misery and helplessness with the verses focusing on lamenting an issue, to no avail, but being energized and hit by the synthesizer or the beat, and how it brings us alive. the whole end of the song in english really sums up the soul and the message behind the entire song. the title is referencing music and how it can provide us with strength or power or energy, being both self referencial but mainly serving as a general example to reference the concept of song. Ya, I know that they're literally taking place at different times of the day, different times, etc.. But Ringo dating/sexing with one band member then moving to the next sounds too 'linear' eg. Hata > Izawa > Uki > Kameda, because pieces of Ringo's 'dates' are shuffled throughout the video so I don't get a sense of her moving from one to the next, unless she has time travel. When I mean they're all taking place at the same time, I'm talking about the unique 'world' of the video.
And unlike you, I don't feel a sense of "repetition", but a sense that the segments of the different dates make up one whole -- not occurring "each by themselves." |

no, I think we agree about this aspect, because I agree in what you wrote. I think the misunderstanding was in the language we used. its almost like parallel universe, kind of tricky to talk about. obviously it seems like variations on a theme, andy warhol, that whole bizness.
oh, and HQ has been uploaded to youtube!

Hmm.. well I really liked the first verse. I'm not sure about the chorus, it's a bit bland. I do like the direction though.
I think I'll order this just because it's cheap! |

What I want to know is, if throwing roses/tour dates/etc means Izawa is leaving.....
....what does Ringo playing with Hata's hair symbolise???? Or more importantly, Ukigumo's khaki shorts???? |

this video reminds me of sounan, how we get multiple perspectives and alternate angles and how it might end up with alternate versions on this eras PV collection. this song is deceptively slow, it has the electronic aspects which help it move but its almost a ballad. kind of groovy/funkadelic, just sit back and groove to it. I can dig it, my problem is almost that its just too short! just when I start to get into it there is that beep right at the end, it almost feels like she cut it short just to meet the 3 min title, but perhaps a slightly longer ending would have done the song better. also, the PV/song combination definitely feels Adult-ish, at least in the sense that this is something I could buy as coming out after Adult. I wonder if when this is said and done Variety will be viewed as a total misstep. |

Ha, about half way through listening to the song last night I got the worst migraine I've had in years and had to turn it off. Bad timing or a sign? Actually I like the song. It's different but it isn't really shocking or surprising. Also, I said I like the song. Thus far I'm seeing no signs it being 'brilliant' or 'fantastic' but we'll see how it grows. Much better first impression than OSCA though.
