I saw these guys last night and I'm still pretty high off of it. I saw a sole flyer for the show at my radio station. A Japanese band in San Antonio of all places? So I went, I was surrounded by a throng of otakus and punk rockers so I was a bit worried, but the flyer had a girl on it and said they were "new wave" so I was optomistic. The band exudes fun tho. Its hard to really critique the songsmanship when the band looks like they're having a blast and you can't help but join in. Bands I'm interested in never--ever come to San Antonio, so I had no choice but to go this show even if I had no idea who the band was beyond they came from a country whose music I vaguely follow. But don't get me wrong, I was head over feet about it once the show started. The keyboardist was a honey got my picture with her.

Coldplay was so much better when they were poor, under-fed, and gawky. "Viva La Vida" sounds so pompous and they look like tools now =(

Yeah, I gave it a listen. Don't think I'll give it a second.
The new Sigur Ros album on the other hand is fantastic!

CSS - Left Behind
First Rage(Rat is Dead), now this. This is the approach that the Long Blondes should've taken with their second album. CSS changed their sound but they didn't lose the passion, the fun, and their ear for hooks and melodies. Asobi Seksu - It's Too Late I just got my high end headphones repaired after 1 1/2 years out of service. I listened to this song for the first time with these headphones. It was mindblowing. With crappy headphones the song still sounds great but many parts sounds mashed up and noisy. With my newly repaired headphones every part is individualized and articulated. Yuki's voice breaks at the end of each phrase, the drums at the end compliments the wave of guitars, and the great burst of sound near 3:12 almost made me cry in public.
