I rarely liked any TJ songs at my first listening, I think Tasogare Naki was the only one. But Pinocchio and Kagami just joined this one. I love em both. OSCA is okay, but doesn't even come close to the b-sides

People who got their copy already. Please respond...... I don't have the copy yet, so i can't comment on the music yet. Been restraining myself to download it from the net so the surprise element will not fade away when my copy arrive. |

put the OSCA single on my iPod on friday and shocked myself by playing 'Kaban no Nakami' about six times in a row. definitely one of the best Tokyo Jihen songs. wonderful lyrics and Shiina's last high note just _nails it_
still a little disoriented about Ringo relinquishing musical authorship. but this single makes me feel a little better about it -- they've got such a distinctive sound by now, it's still Jihen. |

So... Can you tell me how B.B. King, John Mayer, Eric Johnson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Brian May, Hirama Mikio, Sugizo, Duane Allman, Allen Collins and Eric Clapton have similar tones? You seem to be implying that since I have such a narrow view on what good tone is. You are reminded about it because I try to explain what I don't like about a particular thing instead of simply saying I don't like it. It's the same thing as you saying Uki is ace because he's unique. We hear that just as often, but you don't see me telling others to shut up about it.

Hahaha
Well, they're not bad huh, but except for a few titles, there's nothing exceptionnal. Maybe it has to do with the fact that they were innovative or whatever in their time, but today i can't find nothing that gret in it. Second point is that their reputation is so fucken huge that when i first heard a full album, it could only be a little disapointing. Expectations, etc...and it was particulary strong here since they're something like the most famous band of the world. It's still surprising how people are shocked when someone doesn't like one of those untouchable bands. (same for Metallica, one of the over-estimated bands ever) There's so much great bands in the history of music, some barely known, that it annoys me a little too, so maybe my judgement is affected when it comes to legendary bands that "everyone likes". (but it's not about being underground and not liking bands like these, otherwise i wouldn't listen to mainstream too... i personnaly prefer the Kinks, for example -except fo their bad 70's period-) (ok, i'm maybe not very clear here but it's almost 5 am here, getting a little tired. Oyasumi.) |

Of course, lots of other bands contributed to the change of sound of the decade, but the Beatles were really the most noteworthy. That's why they were the most popular band in existence for so long. Current-day artists are still copying music techniques and writing methods that McCartney, Lennon, and (to some degree) Harrison basically invented in the 60's (I'm listing McCartney first because he deserves to be overrated too), so the fact that people may not see anything great in their music could actually be seen as a compliment.. |
