Oh, I don't know about now. I gave up on video game magazines a couple of years ago and found out about this one last April. I definitely don't like EGM, though. I feel that their design was very cluttered. But the issue I have to reference was from October 2005, so I don't know if they changed much.

I've never read the actual magazine itself (It's not available in the UK), but I read all their content on 1up.com. I'm sure the magazine has been re-designed since then though.

Monkey Island.
Let's make a new one, Monkey Island-ish game. No 3d or anything like (FFS). Who is in? I can code it. Who does the art/animation? Who makes up the jokes? Who writes the story line? And who sings the theme song? We can make a game like "Ringo Island". |

I'm in. If I devote myself to it, I could even be crazy enough to make sprites...

The first item you get in the game will brake when you try to use it in the last chaper, be completely useless that way.

Lost Odyssey is better than I expected. Great fighting system and the "A thousand years of dreams" short stories are presented in such a perfect way, it gives me goosebumps everytime I read one.

Okay, so...I won a Nintendo DS Lite today when I pledged to vote coupled with the Phantom Hourglass Zelda game. I ran to the store and bought Final Fantasy III and New Super Mario Bros. with some of my tax return money. I'm such a dork, but the little kid in me (he's not very hard to find) is giggling like a pig in dirt right now.
Have any of you guys played any of these games? If so, what did you think? |

I played Phantom Hourglass, and while it was cool to control everything with the stylus, I quickly became bored and actually stopped playing the game altogether. I usually only buy games I know I will like, so this is the first time this ever happened to me. It was my brother who bought the game, though. I feel that because of the stylus, the combat was too limited, just basic slashes and that's it. The puzzles and use of the mic, however, were great. Let me point out, however, that I was never a fan of the handheld Zelda games, mainly because I didn't play them when they were new so I guess the old style of play does not suit me as much as it might suit others.
I beat super mario bros. and it's Mario as it's always been. Good stuff. The multiplayer is really fun, too. Final Fantasy III I started to play a long time ago haven't beat it yet, though. I really enjoyed it, not the epic story you'd expect from an FF since its just a remake of the old one with a few story changes, but it's just fun to play. I love the combat and the jobs, especially since when you change jobs it changes how your character looks. I'm all for these kinds of aesthetics and it's one of my favorite thing about the job system. My main critiques are the lack of direction, you just get lost (if I'm not mistaking this for the I and II release on GBA, it's been a while guys) and the fact it's full 3d but your friggin characters don't actually run up to the enemy to attack them. They attack "in-place", as it were. WTF is that? Anyway, I popped it into my DS and vowed that I'd beat it, this was around the time the semester was about to begin, and I have yet to touch it. *Sigh* maybe I'll beat it during spring break...... |

FFIII was fun! Hard as crap. It lacks in the "effeminate villians and androginous annoying heroes" and "Ughh" storyline categories you may have come to love from the late FF games. But this is remake of a game before "storylines" were discovered in an ancient babylonian tomb in the mid-90's. So its just "game." (howevva, that also means "grinding" X_X)
New Super Mario Bros is great. As close to classic as you can get....but still great and a blast. Pick up Tetris DS while yer at it!
