Default Yokushitsu

for me it's the HF ver., a perfect hybrid of la salle de bain and the original arrangement

For me, studio versions without Engrish are in the lead, then there's the HF version with vocals, then there's everything else.

HF Instrumental > SS > HF > ...

They're all pretty overrated, but definitely SS.

No option for HF instrumental? Well, I'd probably go for SS regardless -- I'm a sucker for that chorus.

There's also two more versions of la salle de bain: the Phase 1 version and the Ringohan version

My favorite Ringo song in all its incarnations... but I think HF is the best of both worlds.

Ringo EXPO version, specially for the percussion near the end.

As Glathannus said, versions in Japanese are my favorite. This song has this cyclical and obsessive feel that needs fluency, and she sounds particularly sharp here, as if she were really focusing in her English pronunciation. I don't know who wrote this lyrics, but I think they are the main issue here: not only the metrics but also the choose of words, the phonetic flow is not smooth precisely. "I smelled your lighter oil mixed with coffee and cream", "the troops to protect me were out on patrol" doesn't seem to be right, not for this song to my ears.

Anyway, I like 'em all.

I always heard it as "I smell Jolite oil..." (don't have a clue what it is, though) until now when I checked out the real lyrics
