$75 to $119 is kind of steep for a new or casual fan. Especially in the bitorrent age we live in. Theres also the option of nabbing all 3 albums in used condition for less.

As a gift, the cd box would be a perfect starter pack.

When reading these posts, I keep wondering if the 96kHz/24bit or analog versions of old solo material are really going to sound better. Unless the material was originally mastered 96/24, or analog (30ips 1/2" ideally), the new releases will not have enhanced depth, detail or imaging. The vinyl will be more distorted, in a way that some people consider pleasant, but that's about it. I imagine information on the original mastering format is almost impossible to find, unfortunately.

So HMV Japan got back to me a day later about the vinyls:

I'm gonna shit myself if it sells out and if I still have all those copies coming to me. This would be the only Ringo gold I've struck in years without the aid of a deputy service (and all the associated fees).

just preordered cd box plus the two vinyls (one each) from hmv.
tried doing it from tower, but it didn't like my credit card info, even though i checked it like ten times and it was correct, dammit!

i'd like the dvd set, but i don't have the audio equipment to justify the sound. at least i still get same goodies from cd box.

I've been wondering that too. Judging by how great the audio of Zazen Ecstasy turned out, I'm somewhat optimistic. Although, I will admit that I wasn't particularly impressed with the 96kHz/24bit for most of Watashi no Hatsuden. I expect more of the same for SS and KSK, but I am very excited about the idea of hearing a thicker and more textured version of Muzai Moratorium. I predict that Tadashi Machii, Marunouchi Sadistic, and Morphine, will all sound significantly better, even if nothing else improves.

I figure that even if the vinyl is distorted (the degree of that will depend upon your particular turntable setup), it has more longterm collector value than any other audio/video you could buy for Shiina Ringo.

I ordered 8 of each (to keep up with my current stash of all the other vinyls), but I don't necessarily expect anyone to believe that.

Like I said, I'm trying to keep up with my current stash:

My goal is to sell most of it off one day, and put the money toward a laser turntable.
