I label all Japanese music "Jpop"... there's no point in going further than that.

I don't understand that, and never will. Not all japanese music is pop. You should switch to labelling it as Japanese.

Jpop is not pop, it's Jpop. If you go to a Jpop shelf, you will find all kinds of music. Now many places have Jindie. I guess in a way you could see it if the band belongs to a major label, it's jpop. But guess it's not that easy either. I guess you could just as well label it Japanese music. But jpop is the common term in all music shops...

Yeah I agree, Jpop is a generic term to talk about almost all the modern musical production.

I just label japanese music i have as j-pop or j-rock. Its broad enough but a little more specific than just pop.

I do the same, plus J-Jazz. (For groups like Orange Pekoe, Hiromi, Shibusashirazu Orchestra, etc.)

Not all record stores are good at labelling things properly.
Look at it this way. Let's say you go to Japan and walk into a record store. Do you think you're gonna see two massive sections labeled as "Jpop" and "Jrock" or do you think you're gonna see music classified in all genres the same way it is here, without an A for America or S for Sweden? Pet peeves, lol. |

This video is very handy for downloading music:
and an update:
First attempt was a Shiina Ringo search. First result was the entire KZK album, downloading at optimum speed. Nice.
