Default EMI bought out by Universal

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-15697973

Before this buyout even happened, Universal (the patent owner of SHM-CD) already formed a partnership with EMI for artists such as Blankey Jet City - a band who started in EMI and eventually moved into Universal before retiring. SHM-CD reissues of Blankey Jet City encompassed the entire spectrum of their career - including the earlier albums which were still owned by EMI.

Don't be surprised when you begin to see SHM-CD reissues for artists who never left EMI.
Universal has to financially justify this acquisition somehow...

This is a rather strange piece of news. So, do we know if Universal is gonna keep the EMI brand, or if they're going to be distributing EMI artists to their different labels?

I'm getting more and more worried. That means that even more artists are being controlled by an increasingly smaller group of corporations. It's not a monopoly, but if the RIAA is already writing some US Laws, what will happen when it comes down to 3 or 4 companies controlling 90% of the music?

George Carlin called it the illusion of choice. We need these trusts busted again.

Oh god, that's right. All that's really left now is Universal, Warner, and Sony.

This can't be good. :\

And Avex. And Tokuma. And VAP. And Pony Canyon. And Victor.
And PIZZA OF DEATH.

Just kidding, no one cares about any of those.
