Mellon Collie is my fav Pumpkin album too. I love "Here is no why" as well as Tonite, 1979, and Bullet with Butterfly Wings. I too, like Aeroplane Flies High because James had some good songs on it like "The Boy."
After Billy Corgan's TheFutureEmbrace I'm hesitant for Zeitgeist (new Pumpkins album.) With no James Iha or either old bassist (D'arcy or Melissa Auf Der Maur) I'm definitely worried it will be to "Billy =( " But of course, Im hoping for a return to form for him. EDIT: Not only is Mellon Collie my fav album of theirs, its also possibly my fav era of any band. It was a double album, then enough B-sides for another 2 full cds. All this coming off the super-duper successful Siamese Dream which was definitely a hard act to follow. They flooded it out of the room I think.

Mine too. I prefer Siamese Dream to Mellon Collie with my favorite SD song being Disarm.

I had a pumpkin era too. Only ever listened to Mellon collie but that one rocked so much. Loved 1979 .. "cool kids never have the time"
and a lot of other songs from that infinite sadness. |

I'll go ahead and come out of the Christian music closet too. XD Except I think I often like the sounds better than the lyrics, for some artists. Sometimes I'm listening and it's like "Hey! I don't agree with that" (cause I'm a bit of an unconventional Christian). Artists whose lyrics I DO like are Carolyn Arends and Ginny Owens. I've liked Michael W. Smith for a long time too. I'm kind of out of date with most of it though, and the albums I have are all from the late '90s cause I was stealing the music from my dad (and now he's all about the lame Christian rap/rock that I could care less about). Oh well!

I used to listen to nothing but Christian music (I've kind of turned my back on all that in recent years, but that's a whole other discussion). The only Christian artist I still like is Five Iron Frenzy (which just happened to be the band that got me started on my ska phase). They've got some pretty unconventional lyrics (and an EXTREMELY unconventional sound) for a Christian band...

Oh well, compared to you three, I don't really listen to a lot of Christian music then. @_@;; I mostly listen to the music that turn into praise like Matt Redman's stuff.

The nationalist in me is proud on Sweden's behalf - 90% of the "Scandinavian" music you mentioned is Swedish
For me it's a tie between Japan/Scandinavia. Japan homes so many of my favorites, but Scandinavia does too so =/ The US has a lot of good music that I listen too, unfortunately drenched in so much crap it's hard to pick it as the best... Christian music, I've never listened to. I'm not even baptised so I guess I've never had a link to it. Though, Sufjan Stevens could be considered somewhat Christian in his lyrics, right? (I found him thanks to frecklegirl tho so maybe he doesn't count) |
