Type for yourself.
That lick single-tonguedly got me interested in Ringo. At first her voice was a major turn-off, but I decided to suffer through the nasal storm in hopes of seeing more licks. But there were none. If we're getting into a "definitive" Ringo song discussion, there are the obvious contenders (e.g. Kabukichou no Joou, Marunouchi Sadistic, Gibusu, Honnou, Shuukyou) but I move that we make Papaya Mango the new "official" definitive Ringo song in hopes that she'll realize how lame she's been recently, go insane and have a musical epiphany. I don't want her to make Muzai Moratorium or even Shouso Strip music anymore, but I want her to put out a new solo album and invite everyone to the party except for that Goddamn deaf rooster with the lame-ass hairdo and Tourette Syndrom named Ukigumo by the inbred daughter of two backwoods first cousins who own a weasel farm in the sticks of Japan.

Creep is not a good example of a Radiohead track though. Heck, not even the band likes it much. It doesn't define them or give listeners a glimpse of what to expect. Honnou is the opposite of Creep, when it comes to reflecting the artists sound. They're similar only in popularity.
Honnou is Paranoid Android. And missing PA off any Radiohead "best of" mix would be blaspheme. Missing Creep of would not be.

You asked "Your Point?" and I've told you his point. Honnou is seen as the defining Ringo song, and it's popular because of this. Using Creep was a flawed analogy because it's popularity is not based on it's classic Radiohead sound or the fact that it's generally thought of as one of their best songs, but more for it's more commercial, standard rock sound. If this was obvious to you, then you shouldn't have used said analogy and asked Maou what his point was. And try to sound a little less condescending when replying to people.
Mystery solved.

My god, her English is perfect in that song, so alluring and desperate. You just can't goddamn please everybody...

It is a useless point to discuss. But I think Maou's point is pretty obvious. He doesn't have to reiterate. They're popular for 2 very different reasons. Many would say Honnou does represent *the* Ringo song. Hence why people are saying the likes of "It's the song I'd use to introduce someone to Shiina" etc. Nobody in the Radiohead community would say such things about Creep. So while you're right that Creep is popular, like Honnou, Maou was using it's popularity as a basis for it being good because it's popular for very different reasons (primarily because it is good).

...and I thought discussions like the one above was reserved only for Phase 1 vs Phase 2, Hirama vs Ukigumo type of topics! Too bad you missed out on the whole H vs U action Shinji, I think you would have liked it.
I guess this again proves, that we love Ringo for so many different reasons, that we just can't help it but argue...

Don't say that man. Lively intelligent debate is what makes a forum run.
What fun would it be if all we did was jack each other off with praise about our own opinions? This debate was pretty intelligent at first (excluding my own post/threat), just don't take things too personal.

It would be nice if the original theme of this thread wasn't completely overwhelmed by tangential topics. I'm trying to make a point of listening to other member's tapes as BGM while I putter around my apartment.
JR put together a very nice set of tracks, and I can just let it loop for a long time without getting tired of the songs. CJ's muxtape is entering heavy rotation, and I'm enjoying it. Having abandoned any connection with most popular culture a long time ago, I've never heard of any of the bands, but that just adds to the fun. The Ting Tings are really starting to grow on me. |

And if you're looking for a forum where no one argues...this is the wrong one.
