LOVE the cheap looking cheesiness of the first seasons. I don't like that modern expensive look it has now.

^My mistake, I understood what you meant but didn't phrase my response correctly. What I was saying was that it didn't have any bearing on me either way, since I don't think the new sets/production values are really that highly updated. Cheesy production/slightly less cheesy production is really what I pay attention to when it comes to Doctor Who. But I can see why folks would miss the camp of the RTD years.

I like Breaking Bad, which has excellent acting, writing and cinematography, but enjoy Fringe more. You know that the characters in Breaking Bad are going to screw their lives up more and mode each episode until everything falls apart at the end of season 5. Not the most entertaining thing to watch. |

karateexplosion TV Update Time!
Just finished season two of Fringe. Interestingly, I almost (even though I hate to say it) miss the formulaic episode format it started with. The tenor feels very different now that their focusing on the main story arc/crisis rather that giving to the audience a piece at a time. The pacing seems off to me, if you know what I mean. A little too much too quick. I'm pretty interested to see what's next but I wouldn't be surprised if the show was done blowing my mind. Also just (literally about half an hour ago) finished Doctor Who up to "A Good Man Goes to War", the most recent serial. Boy, lemme say, what a turnaround. It's about time Matt Smith finally stepped into this role and made something of it. It's almost uncanny how much more I'm enjoying Series 6 as opposed to five. Maybe it's because there's been less filler (they may be on to something with this half-season business) and more Moffat, or simply the fact that Smith is finally a commanding presence on the screen. I'm essentially rearing to go, waiting for the airing schedule break to be over here in a few days. Strong. Also, I seem to be watching Pushing Daisies all the time. It's my girlfriend's go-to show to have something while preforming other tasks, since I own the complete series on DVD. Actually a really enjoyable show; shame how it got shafted with the writer's strike and all. It had a lot of promise. |

I watched an episode of Breaking Bad yesterday that was about hunting down a fly. For the whole 40 minutes.
What a huge waste of time.

"Fly" is the only bottle episode in the series. Literally. By itself, it sucks. But the two-and-a-half seasons leading up to it make it so much more meaningful.

To anyone who loves Pushing Daisies I highly recommend Wonderfalls. It's only one-season long, with elements of magic, and has the most sane main heroine I've ever seen in TV series. As a bonus you get Lee Pace in a supporting role. As an extra bonus there's also Tracie Thoms who played Joanne in Rent, if anyone gives a damn about that.

^ Actually have heard a lot about Wonderfalls since it apparently was a big inspiration for Pushing Daisies. They reference it in the DVD commentary incessantly. I may have to go check that out... wonder if it's on Netflix.
