It's not that people blasting their portable players is anything new - it's that there's less listening fatigue (and subsequent hearing loss) from what people were blasting themselves with 10-20 years ago, compared to today.

And justriiingo,
Now that I think about it, most speakers/headphones can't produce sounds as low as 30 Hz (not without an absurd roll-off anyway), so if that's the upper limit of someone's "hearing", then there's nothing for them to hear (or feel) unless they've gone through the audiophile equivalent of being born with a silver spoon in their mouth.

Turtlefu, if by balance control you mean equalization -- THERES AN APP FOR THAT!
(i'll shoot myself now.)

Weihong, those s2's look sick dawg. I have a Galaxy s phone (Captivate) and love it.

Back to Maou, if buying an Android makes me a hipster, then I guess I'm just a big hipster...No seriously. For Christmas I'm getting a record player and another expensive pair of headphone. What monster have I become?? Should someone give me a scarf, or some Chucks...

No, stop, tell me this isn't the case.

It is true in Singapore for teenagers aged 13-23ish something.

And you might have to add the placebo effect. Having a brand name might make your brain think that the music sound better just like some people still say .flac is better than 320kb mp3 in terms of casual listening.

Honestly, I have seen my school mates using expensive popular branded headphones like beats or razer without even knowing the difference between 320kb mp3, lower bitrate mp3 or flac.

@Jihad
Not like an equalizer, something that can make the output on the right earphone louder than the output on the left one. My Sansa Clip w/ Rockbox can do it. And I think iPhones have a simple slider.

PowerAMP v2.0

Oh, and real hipsters connect their mp3 players to

advanced digital audio warming tools

and then listen via

vintage discrete semiconductor devices

Most hilarious misinterpretation of sarcasm ever...

Ok but seriously, this thread is for Carnation, so let's take the audiophile talk elsewhere. Anything on that topic after this point get moved to a more appropriate thread...
