Lol, yeah, it is a bit creepy... though not as creepy as Beowulf.
So anyway, what were everyone's favourites/least favourite movies of 2011? My faves would have to be Guilty of Romance- creepy, repulsive, sexy, darkly comic, nauseating, violent, disturbing and utterly moving. My type of movie through and through. Now I just have to hunt down the full Japanese cut... Melancholia- I enjoyed it when I watched it, but the fact that it left such a lasting impression is what puts it up in my top movies of 2011. And my, that celestial collision mixed with the music.... flawless cinema right there. We Need to Talk About Kevin- Tilda Swinton always impresses me, mainly cause she puts herself in such uncomforting and relentless rolls, this being no exception. Not a date movie. Midnight In Paris- A great, great Woody Allen movie, I dare say its amongst his best. If this is your kind of thing, there will be a lot to enjoy in this film. Worst: The Green Lantern OR Captain America. The first for being just plain bad and the second for being so wtf to me.

as of right now the immediate few that come to mind are:
Bridesmaids The Muppets Melancholia Shame Martha Marcy May Marlene The Tree I Saw the Devil Poetry The Housemaid Secret Sunshine I should clarify that not all of these films are theatrical 2011 releases but all American region theatrical or home media releases, so they were all 2011 releases in the US as far as I'm concerned. I want to add We Need to Talk About Kevin but that isn't out in the US until 2012. |

Tree of Life was visually spectacular, but I don't dig Malick's writing.

I agree. Everybody talked about how profound it was, but I found everything to be on the nose.

Saw The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo with my dad, sister, and 17 year old niece. Family fun!
I saw the original last year and nodded off in both films around the same time, about the hour forty-five minute mark. It's the kind of movie where the subplots are more interesting than the main plot. People above talked about the rape scenes, which is a really a rape and a rape-revenge-rape, and I have to admit suppressing a chuckle at the "rape shower," which is such a melodramatic cliche. The rape scenes themselves came across as lurid exploitation to juice up the subplots, which is partly what made them more interesting than the lame "who killed Harriet" mystery. |

So, worst (or most disappointing) movie of 2011? Can I nominate Cowboys and Aliens? If only it had taken itself less or more seriously.
