I don't like the song that much either, but that's so trollishly ignorant it kinda isn't even funny. Makes your other more educated opinions of their songs suffer a bit from it.

Okay folks, I was going to wait until the single came out, and if no one had done this yet, I was going to post my shot at translating the lyrics for Sore ga....

But since the single is pushed back, I might as well put it up now.

First up are the lyrics as they're likely to be printed. Note: all three mentions of "Kousokudouro" (highway) are pronounced as "Freeway" in the song.

Romaji and English translations are all mine, so please be gentle. I'm not saying these are definitive or even close to 100% accurate. The English may not look like a literal translation because I think translation should aim for meaning, not literal transcription.

Anyway, enjoy, criticize, correct, suggest, whatever you may. I put my own thoughts about the song, having digested its lyrics, below.

My thoughts: there is a nice progression of emotion in the song, from fear, to confidence, and then to doubt and despair. It's one of those "oh, it's such torture loving you" types of songs, playing with the ambivalence of wanting emotions that can't be controlled and are always in doubt.

There's also a passivity to it, a sort of frustrated inability either to communicate feelings or to change the status quo. Again, one of those "ah what beautiful torment" types of songs.

There's a clear sexual metaphor all throughout, which makes it a good song for Ringo.

My main complaint is that I wish there were less conventional images in it. Sky? Bridge? Poetics 101. Oh well. She brings a good voice to it, especially when she cries out to God. It could have come off as whiny, but there's some heat in there.
