Maybe because the lyrics are really dirty and the Puritans here ruin everything...

Wow, no mention of Justin Bieber's "Under the Mistletoe"? Blasphemy! :O

Joking aside, I've always enjoyed the Beach Boys' Christmas album myself.

What about Mariah Carey's album? I actually do like Mariah Carey, and you can't deny "All I Want For Christmas" is a modern classic.

It really is. I've never listened to the rest of the album though, because I don't really like her as a person.

Okay, I listened to both the Aimee Mann and Harry Connick Jr albums. Sorry, I know they were recommended here, but... Aimee Mann sounds soulless and like she doesn't have her heart in it. Harry Connick Jr, I don't know what it is exactly, but I don't see what he adds to any of these songs. And a lot of his choices are pretty religious, and that's just not really what I care for nowadays when it comes to Christmas songs (irony, maybe, but I tend to think of Christmas as an ancient wintertime holiday only relatively recently Christianized).

Anyone have any other good recs?

There's a pretty bizarre compilation of 80s Japanese New Wave artists doing Christmas songs called "We Wish You A Merry Christmas"

http://www.discogs.com/Various-We-Wi...elease/2535466

Has artists like Jun Togawa, Moonriders, Koji Ueno and more.

Cool find, grandma! Tracks by Hosono and Takahashi too. Will definitely give it a listen.

That's reasonable. Secular holidays songs tend to be better-written than Christian ones, and this really shows through in modern arrangements.
