I think it's that last note where she just screams that really turns me off of it, especially in Just Can't Help It.

^ Maybe her engrish speaking fans? I get confuse sometimes by her English, so I prefer her Japanese more.
Her voice didn't annoy me at all when I first listened to her songs, I'm more amazed by her ability to go from sweet to RAWR in one verse. Although I couldn't agree more about not liking her live recordings at the start. It was only after DO that I flipped out and saw the epicness of her live vocal.

Engrish speaking fans xD
I don't know if that's an insult, but it sounds as funny, lol. I think I would prefer if she sang in perfect english, when she sings in english, but nonetheless, her pronunciation adds some more feeling to the songs which is also quite pleasent to hear. At least after some time. |

I find her English is usually pretty good, most of the time.

I was never bothered by her voice but then I always knew she was a singer songwriter and I never expect good voices from that lot.
she does have some quirks that annoy me such as the stutter-y broadway voice she started doing later on (yes, like in Dynamite and yes, I don't like that song either) or the way she intentionally breaks her voice like in HF Yume no Ato because it makes her sound calculated and insincere. |

I only meant to say that there are different sets of standards for different types of artists in the music industry. Tom Waits wasn't given a contract because of his dashing good looks or pleasant voice and Britney Spears wasn't given a contract because of her bold lyrics or guitar skills. Singer songwriters have great musical talent but that doesn't always come with a voice people normally like to listen to...
I love Ringo's voice but I don't think you'll find someone like her on Japanese Idol. |

There are a lot of singer-songwriters that have good voice... Laura Marling or St. Vincent, just for a few examples. So when you say that you "never expect good voices" from singer-songwriters, makes me feel you're either forgeting some artists or you simply don't know what you're talking about :x |
