I haven't really had time to search out new music cause I'm currently binging on the playoffs, the Weeknd, and this:

I'm listening a lot of jazz stuff lately, and I was watching the documentary "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" about the backband that played almost all of the Motown hits in the 60's and 70's. They are The Funk Brothers, and they're amazing, and I chose a video from the show they made for the documentary, hope you guys like it:
(creepy that frozen image, eh? )

I got My Bloody Valentine's Loveless 'cause I'd heard it was all influential and such. But the times I've listened to it it seemed boring to me. Mehh. I love a good deal of Lush, but shoegazing is really hit or miss with me.
I like this song. |

Which Lush stuff do you like most, Mizer (and Maou)? I feel very vindicated they have a new generation of fans because the rather snarky critical reception at the time was that they were crap and just in it to get drunk and party. Also I still want to strangle the producers of Spooky (way too many effects) and Split (enervating and depressing) for messing with the sparkle that band had. I prefer the lives on YouTube in almost all cases, although I love the studio version of the song Lovelife that Maou posted.
And they did have a great line in cute cover versions...
I could never get into Loveless, its glitchy droniness is a matter of taste, but some tracks on it and Isn't Anything still have a real "wow" impact. Kevin Shields was an innovator and they've dated far better than a lot of the original British shoegazing scene. YouTube Chapterhouse or Ride in comparison and you'll hear how twenty years have passed! I used to love this poppy and weird shoegaze album, although this is probably the least weird and most poppy moment on it. Reminds me so much of Street Fighter II on the Megadrive because I used to play that game a lot when it came out.

I love Ciao so so much:
It's got the guy from Pulp. Whom I don't listen to, but I played the Trainspotting soundtrack a lot back in the day. And he's on one of those songs. So it's fun to hear him in something else. Aaand For Love. I love the atmosphere the lyrics give.

Well, to be honest I've never listened to a whole album of hers as of today (but I certainly will in the future). I can only suggest that, if you're not that into avant-garde, you shouldn't try the very first albums (like "The Litanies of Satan" or the self-titled one), but you can stick with one of the jazz cover albums. Like, "Malediction and Prayer", which also has Gloomy Sunday in it. It also contains "Supplica a mia madre" (with lyrics by Italian poet, writer, film director - and so on - Pier Paolo Pasolini) which is immense in its lyricism and expressivity.
Here's the aforementioned recording:
and here are the lyrics (along with english translation). Hope I helped somehow. |

Thank you very much, it'll be some time till I get to her in my queue, but I won't miss her now that she's there ;]
Her expressiveness reminded me of a Russian artist Alexander Vertinsky (1889-1957), whom, to my deepest shame, I don't know too well.
