Met today with Smithsonian staff members and will be helping there during the probably awesome The Art of Video Games. Will undoubtedly be asking for EM insight about the featured games.
First question: what is going on in this unfathomable Hosono music video? I am guessing that the NHK guys are from S.E.T., but otherwise I am totally in the dark. I emailed this link to the Smithsonian exhibition coordinator tonight and I'm expecting that she will be quite baffled. There does seem to be a linear narrative.

I think it's just a odd skit they love to play.
Japanese Wikipedia says that it's come from actual NHK talk show "YOU" (1982-87). Music was come from promotion purpose 7 inch single of 12 inch single Hosono/Namco's "Super Xevious"(1984). Previous album "Video Game Music" (released on April 25,1984) was considered as first video game soundtrack.

I bought that lp back in '85, but did not know that cool info.
Still curious about the theme of the video. Something is happening to Hosono while he labors to correctly perform the song. Women inexplicably appear, he desperately consults a manual, well coiffed and comically unkempt NHK announcers talk at length... I thought NHK was notoriously boring and stiff, and this must have been S.E.T., whose comic skits punctuated a previous YMO album. Last edited by TeslaGuy : 2012.02.22 at 08:04 PM. |

Another odd skid from YOU.
"20XX professor Sakamoto talk on Itoi Shigesato (interviewer Kisaragi Koharu)" Opening song: Sakamoto, drawing: Otomo Katsuhiko. Itoi was presenter of the program. Togawa Jun was credited as guest but did not appears on this clip. |

Wonder whether Ringo is a Nintendo or Sony person.

I'm playing through SMT: Devil Survivor now. I was trying to rush my way through it before DS2 came out, but that didn't happen. It's a nice game, but I'm concerned I've gotten over the difficulty hump (like Persona 4 stops being difficult after the second dungeon). I got the skill Drain on the MC and Ishtar (also with Drain) as one of his demons. I seem so OP now. I can Drain around 140 HP and MP per attack. I hope Drain doesn't stay this powerful in the last couple of days.
