That was bizarre yet quite amusing, kinda like a school awards ceremony complete with the low budget camera work, and then Shiina just popped up!

That was pretty cool, actually. Kyoko Koizumi and Yu Aoi picked up awards along with Ringo. Never thought I'd see those three women in the same room!

So perhaps the bottom line is, Japanese don't give a damn about romanizing correctly?
yeah, that was what I was getting at. romaji is crap anyways, I don't know anyone who likes it who can read japanese, it isn't very helpful once you just jump ship and learn to read and write.

and ringo gets props for being the only chick in kimono, although she looks so amazingly old and either she was not wearing contacts or was trying to act bizarre with all that squinting and scurrying, totally unexpected. compare that to ringo expo and its like two completely different women.

She wasn't the only one in a kimono. An older woman in the second row was wearing one too. Hers was white too -- I wonder if there's any significance.

And about romanization -- the other forms of romanization (sheena, shena) is all up to personal preference really. There's in fact a very long history of Romanji.
Nothing is techincally "linguistically incorrect" because there is no one-to-one correlation of sound to letter concerning all of the languages which use the Roman alphabet (especially within English). While the Hepburn system seems to be the most wildly used (and my preference) all of them are valid in their own systems.

It is hard to find any kind of consensus within the EMF community. That's why we are so unique.

Who at EMF calls her anything but Shiina save for the few "Sheena"s?

That MEXT video is soooo bizarre. Especially the photo bit at the end... just weird!

*Points at self.*

I'm gonna start calling her Sheena because romanization sucks.

Also, her kimono rules. And the way she moves is so awkward considering the rest of the people there.

Yeah, she seems a little overdressed. It's like the episode of the Office (US) where Carol goes to the Diwali celebration wearing a cheerleader's uniform. But the opposite.

(Never mind, bad comparison. I don't actually want to be awake)
