^^^ Great movie. The sleaze just drips off the screen. And a great silent performance by Zoe.

I recently built 100 inch screen with 7.1ch sound system in my small bed room
(BenQ w1080st made it possible). I really enjoy watching rental DVD/BD's through this system. But I am less than ordinary man about movies, so I need some guidance and refers to imdb top 250 list. I like Lumet, Fincher and Stone, though it's too ordinary for posting. I am also like preaching movies like American History X, Hotel Rwanda. Last edited by EmilScherbe : 2014.09.14 at 08:31 PM. |

^ If you wanna give your screen what it truly deserves, try hunting down pretty much any Blu Ray release under the US's "Criterion Collection" -these may not be super sharp all the time, but they look beautiful and no doubt the closest to the originals you can get.
I will personally pay the extra to get something on Criterion if the option is there- the Wes Anderson movies in particular are the most outstanding looking blu rays I own. The audio is usually way more natural on these releases too- no tacked on surround sound in many cases- but really beautiful stereo (or even mono) tracks are quite often the case. I know that doesn't sound great for your 7.1 system but hearing is believing- I mean, hear the difference between the Criterion stereo track (24 bit) on their version of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas to the Universal 5.1 pressing... I may sound like a raving maniac here, but try and get at least one Criterion blu ray in your hands for playing on that massive TV!

When it comes to film, for me there are three categories.
1)Kubrick 2)Lynch 3)Other I'll admit that David Lynch is a debatable personal preference, but when it comes to craft, Stanley is the man. Some alternative lists for you to check out. 40 Best Current Directors Films With Amazing Cinematography Bunch O' AFI Lists Roger Ebert - Great Movies |

I love David Lynch immensely too, though Wes Anderson is my current favourite American director (I mean, has anything come remotely close to The Grand Budapest Hotel for sheer vision this year???). Did you pick up Twin Peaks blu ray set yet? Totally amazing upgrade!

I agree, looks fantastic. But nothing beats watching it in 480i on April 8, 1990.

^^^ Yep, on a 20" screen, no less.
I don't get the Kubrick love. Pre-2001, sure. But as soon as he got spacey, his movies turned cold and remote. |

Thanks for advise.
as for sound quality, I even use DSP(Dolby Pro Logic IIz Height) to listen 2ch source like CDs, I am not so sensitive about it. |

Man, I was thinking about it, and cannot think of any science fiction movie in the last 10 years that has been anywhere near as good (and lasting) as District 9...
Anyone agree?
