When I compare the two of them I think of Ringo as being a tough, schooled, brilliant urban citizen, and Cocco as a sweet Okinawa girl who was gifted, or perhaps in her own mind burdened, by an exceptional ability to feel and express herself. My mind is entranced by Ringo's wonderful music, but my heart belongs to Cocco. I am glad that I never need to choose between them. My yin and my yang. Wow. Cocco at CXSW. That would have been magic. I have conversed with HALCALI at Kinokuniya, and cheered Ami, Yumi and Cornelius from the middle of the front row of rather intimate Manhattan venues, but have never seen Cocco. I imagine that more than a few young Texans were dazzled by her performance.

My first post. I first heard Shiina last year when my friend let me hear the song, 17. It wasn't impressionable to me. It wasn't a song you would get hooked on, right? Her raspy voice was really weird at that time. I decided to hear some Shiina songs on youtube after I read a really nice review on her. I got hooked on Kabuki no Joou and everything else was just magic.

That's what I like to hear! I hate it when people get hooked through the later stuff nice to see someone get into her via the old (superior) stuff .

Haha, thanks. I started from Muzai Moratorium to Shouso Strip and on and on, though I admit I haven't finish listening to everything. I keep on listening to Shouso Strip, over and over again.

I first heard Shiina when I read about her on an Ai Otsuka forum XD I really didn't like her at first, the first song being Honnou. Then I found the tune kept creeping back into my mind and I just found more songs, liked more songs and the chain continued. The first album I heard though was Heisei Fuuzoku. I then found Karuki, and Shouso Strip, so I worked my way backwards.
