One thing I hate about this is that I wish Uki would just do a song where he just blended in more. Not because I don't like his sound, but because then we would finally have a way of comparing the two . They are obviously not meant to be compared because I'm sure if Ringo wanted to keep the same kind of music as kyouiku, she would have just kept Hirama, but for our sake, it would be nice to have.

EDIT: Actually, don't you guys think that the same goes for Izawa? I feel that phase two uses Izawa as a second guitarist, but with his piano. Kameda and Hata hold the songs together as the drums and bass are supposed to do, but Izawa, like the guitarist, gets to go all out and do crazier things. I think in phase one, a lot of the time, hirama also blended in with the bass and the drums until he got his solos, just like HZM. I think they both were more calm until the choruses whereas Uki and Izawa usually are going in different directions during the slower parts of the songs and even in the choruses. I'm not saying they are any better, but just pointing out the difference in the music styles that I think do not really lend themselves to fair comparisons of the musicians; which is why I don't think you can say anyone is better than another because of this. In a way, HZM was probably the Uki of phase one, in that he pretty much played the same way all the time.

Hirama's signature sound that sets him apart from others is the phrasing and "quack" (see EM Marunouchi and Kokoro for TJ examples) he uses in songs. I don't doubt Uki could duplicate it, but I also don't doubt Hirama could have recorded Adult and Variety exactly the same as Uki.
Okay. It's been a year since I've listened to EM too, so I'll get to that next.

Though I will say, honestly, whether Hirama can play Uki's "Toumei Ningen" line, he never would have come up with it. And he didn't, obviously.

In Hirama's defense, I don't think this is fair to him because DO Toumei Ningen would have sounded stupid if Hirama played Uki's version of it.

DO and Adult Toumei Ningen are two different styles of music. If Hirama played the sappier Adult version, the guitar would likely sound similar to Bokoku Joushou.

And thank you for the music.
