Yeah I guess I do. Kyouiku has some great songs, and I'm not going to say Color songs has individually better songwriting (except of course you know which,) Kyouiku has a couple things going against it. The production of course, but beyond that, I always felt Kyouiku was very safe creatively. While the band tried to go for a "lo-fi" or at least bombastic sound, I never felt the songs really matched that. The reason why I revere DO so much is because songs like Ekimae, Jyuusui Negai, and Crawl just become alive. (I could have named every Kyouiku song.) Even before DO came out and judging the record on it's own, it felt very restrained and I feel the album comes out with relatively shallow highs and lows.

Color Bars I put as an "oddity" which, as with the others I listed, I appreciate a lot for their weirdness and unevenness. They all feel like releases we could have very well not gotten. Off the wall ideas that were followed through until it seemed they didn't fit "the big picture" in post-production and abandoned in unceremonious releases. They may not all be classics, but they're daring and different and have pretty enthusiastic energy behind them. Each song on Color Bars probably won't be for everyone, but each has such a distinct personality and aim that I can dig as a whole. Its that personality and enthusiasm that Kyouiku lacked.

Am I saying that Color Bars is superior to Kyouiku and having the opposite opinion is ridiculous? Absolutely not. On the flip-side its hard to go wrong with Kyouiku and Color Bars is uneven. But what I'm saying is Color Bars appeals to me more than Kyouiku on a personal level. Kyouiku is with some good company too though, so don't take this as a total tear down of the record.

(Kyouiku and Adult is somewhere between these two)

Albums I show my friends who don't know about Shiina:
SS (for rock-types)

Albums I end up listening to a lot because they are easier to boogie to:
Sports

Color Bars

Albums that work okay as an introduction to SR but don't hold up:
Variety

Videos!

Never actually watched all the way through, but works great as a playlist:
DO
EM
Expo
Zazen

What I expect from a high-quality rock concert:
Ultra C

The kind of concert that is just barely worth the money:
Discovery

Superfluous:
Gekukojou

It's like watching a super-campy Broadway show (aka Ringo for the geyz)
Bon Voyage

Cool on first view, does not hold up:
JCHI

The "Singles are usually the least exciting parts of an artists career" cliche:
Sexual Healing

Concerts I have never watched and have no desire to:
Spa and Treatment

This is not necessarily in order

Since some people are talking about it, I will say that I really liked individual parts of JCHI than the show as a whole. Specifically Shojo robot/Kabuki, Kenka joutou and Rakujitsu. But DO and Ultra C are much better overall live shows for me, personally.

Reading this makes me feel bad about not putting DO at the very top, because I went batshit while watching it. I was like that one audience member (in the front) who was in absolute ecstasy. It was very ’oh, so that’s that music can do’ for me.

EM was almost at the top, but I had to remind myself that Doppleganger was not the whole concert. Btw I only really appreciated EM when I listened to the MP3s.
