Shiina/Jihen international?
Has shiina/tokyo jihen ever played outside of Japan?
I would love for her to play here. I know it may seem like a stretch asking you guys but I think you all know her better than I do. Has she ever expressed interest? I'm trying to convince the people for an anime convention to get her |

She hasn't expressed any interest in performing outside of Japan at all. And I don't know if she'd really even want to perform at an anime convention - of all the possible pretenses for an audience to get assembled. Doesn't really fit her modus operandi. If she's not playing at her own dedicated show (during a time and place in which no other band performs), then she's playing at one of those predominantly-rock festivals in Japan where most of the other artists taking their turn on the stage are also too.. independent in style, to be internationally famous.
But in the interests of speculation, if she were going to be touring anywhere outside of.. Asia - I'm doubting that the North America would be among the first of her western stops. She's spent time in England before she made it big, plus she tries to pronounce her English as if she were British. I don't think she identifies much with American culture at all, even though American elements are directly or indirectly among the western elements within her music (she could be getting influenced by Europeans or South Americans who were influenced by North Americans - which is not to say that North America is the original source of all the great styles). What I'm really saying is that if she's not giving North America enough credit toward her own style, then she might not be feeling like she owes us enough to perform over here. Maybe she'd go to Canada because it's kind of American (but not 'too' American), and it's also a Commonwealth nation. This is all just pure speculation, of course.

Thanks :3
Yeah I know it seems disrespectful/typical to want her for an anime convention...I just thought it was about time we get an non-cheesy/typical international performer. And of course the city wouldn't get her to come...so it was like a last resort. Tis a shame. I'd love to see her here live some day. |
