SR on Kouhaku uta gassen NYE 2011

Dunno if this has been noted anywhere else but Ringo will appear on the December 31 show NHK 紅白歌合戦 (Kouhaku uta gassen, Red and white song battle... er).

This is grand. But I guess if you sing a theme of one of NHK's doramas, this is what happens. It's also funny because even 10 years after debuting, Ringo appears for the first time. Let us be guessing that Kameda and the other guys will back her up on stage, just not appearing as Tokyo Jihen.

Worth noticing is also that Korean KARA and Girls' generation appear.

I thought TJ had performed at Kouhaku before? I'm thinking it was Shuraba they played.

Hmm can't confirm nor deny, I just don't remember :-) It is likely that they appeared, but a lot of "great" artists never appear there. It's always the same bunch "every damn year". Some of those appearing have like 30-40 straight years? :-P Anyway it's a first for Shiina Ringo as a solo artist.

And yes about the Korean stuff and Ringo. It IS interesting since there is quite some people reacting against Korean content on tv and elsewhere, especially on TV stations like Fuji tv. I used to follow a guy on Twitter who repeatedly wrote anti-Korean things regarding weekly Korean drama hour counts per TV station. The guy used Shiina Ringo's face as his icon, with a small Japanese flag in there somewhere. You know Ringo is kind of very Japanese and in some ways it's easy for nationalists to use her as an icon.
