I know that it seems odd to say the same band that at one time had a planet full of teenaged girls screaming for them would one day be considered underrated, but early Beatles are totally underrated. They may have looked squeaky clean, but they really weren't. They had just as much street cred as the later Beatles, in fact maybe more so. Plus they had nothing but class tunes that you just can't help but bob yer head and tap your feet.
I once wrote a drunken blog post on the exact same thing. People who just hear the Beatles on the radio or TV only really know most of the early stuff. "The Beatles, yeah I like them. They do "She Loves You" and "Hard Days Night!" etc and they fail to recognise their bigger, more complex albums (aside from the likes of Yellow Submarine and a few off Sgt Peppers) And then avid Beatles listeners only bang on about the big classics and leave little mention to the early albums so yeah, they are underrated.

Anyway, CLT:

MGMT - Kids

Beatles - Live at the BBC, disc 1

Thanks Jihad and Whisper for putting me in the mood. Their early stuff has an unmatchable energy to it. Underrated, most definitely.
