^ Nah... not so sure there was a "good old days" here. Parental concerns about blasting it and potential hearing loss date back at least to when that Sony guy invented the Walkman (particularly as most of us would have got a cheaper brand than Sony). A common "cheap" setup these days would be a mobile phone plus + IEMs which you wouldn't have to turn up as loud to hear the music in busy places as I would on say, my £10 Aiwas from 1994. That might fall short of audiophile idealism, but not every kid could have afforded to or would have found easy to carry a personal CD player around.

That doesn't excuse iBuds or Skullcandies, or make Beats by Dre's any less ridiculously overpriced fashion victim-ish.

Beats apparently have a special feature of the headband snapping easily and probably make you more likely to be a mugging victim to boot.

Funnily enough I quite liked the sound of my friend's pair (they sounded at least worth £50/80$/euro ish) but whenever I've tried them in a shop they've sounded like total crap with a bass that seems to centre around one note no matter what is being played. I'm a dubstepper of sorts and like over-bassiness from time to time, but not like that.

But yeah, kids these days eh. They've got to have a "B" on their headphones.

They also CAN NOT get over the fact I chose to buy an Android over an iPhone. Like, it doesn't compute in their head that anything could be better/as good as their status symbol.

Oh, my friend and I decided to cash in on the beats craze at the beginning of this year. We sold cheap fakes of beats to many people. I think the beats fashion craze is more about the branding than sound quality.
