Jihad, a pretty good Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds release came out in 86 too (Your Funeral My Trial). You should give it a spin, I highly recommend the remastered version.

TJ- you seem to like good 60's stuff, and not averse to XTC, so I suggest their Dukes of Stratosphear silly but serious incarnation. Nothing but late-60's technology (on purpose), but still a blast.
Chips From the Chocolate Fireball, the Dukes everything package, is currently not here, but their other's remain. Lots of cool 60's British Invasion stuff. Fun John Lennon. And a fucking spot-on pretend Beach Boys. Partridge and Colin Moulding of XTC were (are!) unusually bright blokes who never disappointed, but did frustrate their fans by remaining unfairly obscure. Happens.

The 80's were such a golden age for Argentinian music, which is obviously completely unknown to the non Spanish-speaking world. Another album from 1987 I really cherish as one of the most raw, visceral and cryptic works I've heard is Fito Páez' Ciudad de Pobres Corazones, music and lyrics wise. In fact, the album was born as a way to extrapolate the anger and powerlessness feeling triggered by the murder of his grandmothers, whom he used to live with back in the day.

Jihad, if you liked Master of Puppets then you'll probably like Ride the Lightning as well. I personally prefer it by a pretty wide margin actually. It's definitely worth a listen.

TBH I like ...And Justice For All the most out of all Metallica releases. The title track is amazing.
