Eric Clapton owns that shit with Keef. Feels good to be objective.

I think it's kind of hard to compare Shiina Ringo to four of the greatest English rock musicians of all time.

call me a blind fanboi but i'll prefer listening to Ringo (and many other artists) over the beatles anytime. I agree that they were very groundbreaking and I do love some of their stuff but generally they don't fit with my musical taste

Was between Momen no Handkerchief and I Wanna Be Loved By You. So I chose MNH, only then realising it had 3 options. Third woulda been the Spitz cover "Spica" which was studio recorded and missed here.
As far as the Beatles, sure theyre great, but I'd take Ringo simply cause she feels more my discovery rather than my Dads.

You may be blind, but you're not deaf. I agree with you.

But we aren't talking about the Beatles in general.
Yer Blues is a Lennon song, sure, but in terms of performance Shiina's version is good but simply acts as an imitation. For her covers, I prefer the times when she completely reworks a song rather than simply redoes it. Compare Kareha to the original Piaf version. It's incredibly different. But Yer Blues in both incarnations is pretty much a blues rock song. The arrangement is not radically different. We're talking about a specific song, as interpreted by two different artist/groups (The Dirty Mac vs. Shiina Ringo) I mean, Eric Clapton is objectively a better blues guitarist than Yayoshi. You can't even compare it. Last edited by TurtleFu : 2012.03.04 at 05:28 PM. |

Ah, sorry I got confused there, when you wrote "four of the greatest English rock musicians of all time" I assumed you meant the Beatles (isn't that the way it usually goes) :-p
The Dirty Mac version sounds near the same to the Beatles one too. I guess to change the tone/arrangement of it too much would be a sin. Though I would like to hear an orchestrated version for the lulz. I am dissapointed in the lack of love for Haiiro no Hitomi too :-(

Shiina's Yer Blues > The Beatles'. I don't care how blasphemous it is to say. Shiina's is so raw and hits you with the force of a freight train. Ringo's voice is pure sex. It grabs you and squeezes the life out of you as it digs its nails into your back. It's relentless. Plus that break-down, man. It pulls you into a euphoric high above the clouds before dropping you back down to finish the song. It's just fantastic. John Lennon may have written it but Shiina Ringo perfected it.
I'm ready for the response about how wrong I am. Btw, I feel like Spica should be on here. Damn good Spitz cover, if I do say so myself.

You are wrong, but in comparison to the far more uproariously wrong statements said on this forum elsewhere, its hard to be too motivated. :p
