Anyone with the Jenova cells infused into them is controlled by Jenova. Even Cloud is controlled by Jenova through most of the game. Her "son" most definately isn't an exception in my book.

I'm sad that most peoples' views of an awesome villian is a cool-looking dude that carries a giant sword.

Well, it's obviously not JUST that. I love his back story and I think he envelopes the whole 'bad guy' persona perfectly. I also think that the cool factor of how a villain looks and acts is a major reason to think they're awesome. Hence my example earlier. Vincent and Jules own Marcellus Wallace because they look, act and sound cool despite the fact that Marcellus is their superior, and they are technically under his control due to the power he has.

They brought Amano back for FF9 and then threw him away again.

Amano is still doing the logo designs for the games.

Hideo Minaba was the art director for FFIX. Amano was the original character designer, but the characters were redesigned by the main character designer Shukou Murase.

Dissidia is what I was referring to when I mentioned Zidane. Nomura added four extra belts to the design: a second shoulder belt and three belts around the waist. His Warrior of Light looks decent though. It looks more like Dark Knight Cecil, but it's still aight.

Cecil is the BEST name for a Dark Knight, btw.

And I still stand by my statement above, whether I knew the correct credits (or correct job titles) or not.

According to Wikipedia, Amano was the original character designer for IX.

I have the FF9 artbook, and it seems that Amano created all of the original character designs, which were then refined by someone else to resemble the characters in the actual game. I'm not sure if Amano has another style that I don't know about, but these more FF9-like characters don't match what I've seen by him, nor do they match the style that Hideo Minaba uses for the cover design (though they're certainly much closer to that).

Amano (original designs):
Zidane http://www.ffodyssey.com/ff9/amano_zidane.jpg
Garnet http://www.ffodyssey.com/ff9/amano_garnet.jpg
Freya http://www.ffodyssey.com/ff9/amano_freya.jpg

Minaba (cover art):

While I love Amano's art, it seems that most of his female characters resemble one another.
