A bit slow, but I enjoyed it. The recording quality was awful. I still prefer the original version of this song to all other versions. I also don't like when she mixes English and Japanese into the song. Japanese all the way, please.

Recording issues aside, that was great. Personally I love the lounge jazz and I wish she'd do more of it. Very sexy. Also, if I'm not mistaken, the instruments actually were live, which I had thought Music Station didn't do.

I have gotten to the point where the two main versions of Marunouchi Sadistic (typified by the tracks on MM and SG) are really almost separate songs to me, but if I had to pick, I'd say I like the Electric Mole performance most. Followed very closely by the one from Toutaikai.

I don't know much about Music Station, but it was perhaps due to it being a special episode--it seemed like all of the performances I watched where they included live musicians were, well, live. Perhaps the lack of live audiences for many performances is related to that as well...

Old link not working for me, here's another.

Anyway I dig it. Y'all keep calling it lounge jazz but I think this is way more D'Angelo or Erykah Badu than Richard Cheese. I don't like the original version of Marunouchi Sadistic that much anyway. Not her best performance though.

My favourite version of Marusadi has gotta be the Dynamite Out version

EDIT: Checked out the festival videos posted by the same user -- wow what a SMASHIN version of T&B at Rock In Japan!

I guess I'm not sure what else to call it. To me, it's evocative of a very specific image.

Think of an old movie (film noir?) where the protagonist (let's say he's a P.I.) goes to check out a presumably-mafiaed-up cocktail lounge. He sits down at the bar, chats with the bartender, has a drink, and then the evening's entertainment begins.

There's a young (but not too young, she's no ingenue) woman there singing jazz, accompanied on piano by a world-weary gentleman. She catches our P.I.'s eye, and he hers. After a time, it feels like she's singing only to him (including a song that, while still classy, is also definitely a come-on). They meet afterward, he buys her a drink, they fall for each other, yada yada yada. Later on, he finds out she's got ties to whatever nasty individual he's investigating; he thinks he can save her but just hopes she's not mixed up in "all this." In the end it turns out she's in too deep, and winds up either getting hurt, or double-crossing him.

That's what Ringo sounds like, to me anyway.

She looks like she's falling asleep when the music is just starting up. This was definitely an off performance
